Walt Disney Studios today officially confirmed that director Jon Favreau is putting a new reimagining of The Lion King on the fast track to production. The project follows the technologically groundbreaking smash hit The Jungle Book, directed by Favreau, which debuted in April and has earned $965.8 million worldwide.
Although an official announcement has yet to be made, Disney Store has begun taking pre-orders for the Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Combo Pack edition of Jon Favreau’s The Jungle Book with an anticipated release date of August 30, 2016, confirming an earlier report by Stitch Kingdom.
The pre-order also confirms our initial report of bonus features, although with proper English titles as listed below with the addition of an audio commentary provided by Favreau.
Walt Disney Records has released the full track list for Jon Favreau’s adaptation of The Jungle Book (April 15, 2015). As previously reported by Stitch Kingdom, the score by John Debney is accompanied by performances of some of the animated classic anthems by the film’s stars. Not only does Scarlett Johansson perform Kaa’s ‘Trust in Me’ and Bill Murray performs Baloo’s ‘Bare Necessities,’ but Christopher Walken performs a brand new version of King Louie’s ‘I Wan’na Be Like You’ featuring brand new lyrics by Disney Legend Richard Sherman.

Jon Favreau’s The Jungle Book (April 15, 2016) is sure to be so jam-packed, it clearly couldn’t call for anything more — except, perhaps, more cowbell. Although given this is an animal driven movie, maybe just more cows playing the bells.
