As a follow-up to our first look at Katie Holmes in Miramax’s chilling remake of Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark directed by Troy Nixey and produced by epic filmmakers Guillermo del Toro and Mark Johnson, MySpace released the teaser trailer first revealed at the 2010 San Diego Comic-con. Miramax Films and Walt Disney Studios have also provided us with the title treatment for the film to help set the mood.
In Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, Sally Hurst (Bailee Madison), a lonely, withdrawn child, has just arrived in Rhode Island to live with her father Alex (Guy Pearce) and his new girlfriend Kim (Katie Holmes) at the 19th-century mansion they are restoring. While exploring the sprawling estate, the young girl discovers a hidden basement, undisturbed since the strange disappearance of the mansion’s builder a century ago. When Sally unwittingly lets loose a race of ancient, dark-dwelling creatures who conspire to drag her down into the mysterious house’s bottomless depths, she must convince Alex and Kim that it’s not a fantasy—before the evil lurking in the dark consumes them all.
Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark is scheduled to be released in theaters nationwide on January 21, 2011.
In honor the film’s presence at San Diego Comic-con, Miramax has just sent us this rather chilling photo of Katie Holmes in its upcoming release Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark. Directed by Troy Nixey and Produced/co-written by Guillermo del Toro, Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark is a remake of a horror telefilm in which about a little girl (Bailee Madison) who is sent to live with her father (Guy Pearce) and his girlfriend (Katie Holmes) in the old mansion they are renovating, only to unwittingly unleash malevolent creatures bent on destroying all of them.
Nixey and del Toro will be on hand to present a first look at the film at San Diego Comic-con in Hall H on Friday from 2:15 pm – 3:45 pm.

It’s all the talk and I was trying to avoid pandering to the celebrity fiends (or I was at least hoping WDW would release some real photos – although Tom got the best ones from the looks of it), but I can’t resist this one. Extra has some great shots of Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, Suri and Connor frolicking in the rose garden at the Magic Kingdom on Valentine’s Day – they even have Dumbo shots.
