About Kingdom Keepers III: Disney in Shadows:
When Disney Imagineers installed hologram guides for the Magic Kingdom, using teenage models they had no idea the technology might backfire. But backfire it did: some nights when the kids go to sleep, they wake up in one of the Disney parks as a hologram.

With the adventures set forth in the first books now behind them, Kingdom Keepers 3: Disney In Shadow follows the five teens, Finn, Philby, Willa, Charlene, and Maybeck as they search to find Wayne, their mentor and head Imagineer who has mysteriously gone missing. Concerned Wayne has been abducted by the Overtakers-Disney villains, who along with other Disney characters, take over the parks when the turnstiles stop spinning, and want desperately to steer the parks to a far darker place-the five kids pick up a major clue from a close friend, Jez, whose dreams (nightmares, really) often accurately predict the future.

The very few clues from Jez’s dream lead the kids into Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot–through imaginary worlds that become real, by imaginary kids who are real. Each clue seems tied to the last, and with the stakes growing ever higher, what starts out as a puzzle ends up as a fight for their lives. Through a transparent paper box, a quest for a sword, rides on Soarin’ and Maelstrom, life-and-death encounters with giant snakes, and a devious Maleficent, the Kingdom Keepers not only begin to decipher deeper meanings to the clues, but discover new truths about themselves and their ever-growing friendships.

The Kingdom Keepers Return to Guide Guests Through the Disney Parks by Day – and Protect the Parks from Disney Villains at Night

Kingdom Keepers III: Disney in Shadows by Ridley PearsonFive teenagers – the Kingdom Keepers – have been transformed into Disney Holographic Images (DHIs) that thrill guests as they guide them through each of the Disney parks. In truth, the Disney Imagineers created the DHIs to protect Disney’s theme parks from the Overtakers, classic Disney villains, who are trying to seize the parks and use them for their own evil agendas. Ridley Pearson’s Kingdom Keepers book series follows these heroes on behind-the-scenes adventures in the magical world of the Disney parks – and in Kingdom Keepers III: Disney in Shadow, the action happens in Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot. (Disney-Hyperion Books, ages 10 and up, $17.99)

Kingdom Keepers III: Disney in Shadow takes readers behind the scenes in the parks as another evil plot is unleashed. Disney Imagineer Wayne, the Keepers’ mentor, and creator of Disney Holographic Imaging – a cutting edge technology – has gone missing. Has he been abducted? The main suspects? The evil Overtakers, including the devious Maleficent. The DHIs are led on a high-stakes chase through the two parks, and what starts out as a puzzle ends up as a fight for their lives. As they quest for a sword, take rides on Soarin’ and Maelstrom, have life-and-death encounters with a giant snake, and attempt to stop Maleficent, the Kingdom Keepers not only begin to decipher deeper meanings in clues they are given, but also discover new truths about themselves and their ever-growing friendships.

In Disney Book Group’s groundbreaking interactive campaign, Kingdom Keepers III: Disney in Shadow includes bonus pages and endpapers with 3D augmented reality. thekingdomkeepers.com unlocks an interactive map and clues provided in the endpapers and is the pathway for gamers to play the Kingdom Keepers strategy game and help defeat the Overtakers. Players work together to defeat the villains, who have escaped the parks and are now wreaking havoc on the internet. With the overall goal of cleansing the game’s 2500 nodes, each time a node is defeated, the main game map is updated for all players and new content is unlocked – whether it be text, images, photos, or even video. In addition, there is a secret key that allows players to enter code words revealed by Ridley in special videos to attain bonus abilities.

In addition to appearances at Walt Disney World, Pearson will tour the US in support of Kingdom Keepers III – Disney in Shadow. Markets include Miami, FL; Naperville, IL; Wayzata, MN; Portland, OR; Seattle, WA; St. Louis, MO; and San Francisco, CA.

First Pages of ‘Kingdom Keepers 3′ by Ridley Pearson Available Online

On his official blog, Ridley Pearson, popular author of young adult novels, has made the first several pages of his upcoming title Kingdom Keepers 3: Disney in Shadow (April 6, 2010; Disney Hyperion) available for download (Adobe Acrobat Reader required). The newest book in the series has our heroes back in the theme parks of Walt Disney World with a new challenge, obstacles and enemies to overcome.

As Ridley has promised us, Stitch has a prominent role in the book, appearing first on page one, but his badness level appears to be questionable at best. Only time (and the rest of the book) will tell if Stitch counts Maleficent and the Overtakes or Finn and the rest of the DHIs amongst his ‘ohana.

D23 Expo Mini-Update: Auction Updates Highlight Disneyland Experiences, Picture Hatbox Ghost; D23 Goes Viral (Again) and More

It’s hard to follow up the details on the Walt Disney Studios D23 pavilion and screening schedule with anything, so not much else new to report within the 24 hours, so it’s time to turn the clock and put the spotlight on a few things you may have missed.

- But first, some real news: The D23 Live Expo Auction Catalog has been updated. This revision details the Disneyland experiences, a few of which are definitely once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Some photos have also been added including several of the Hatbox Ghost. You can get the updated PDF directly here. Remember that in addition to D23 Expo admission, you must purchase a separate auctioneer’s package in order to bid on items.

- Going back further in time, D23 started a little YouTube video series a la Blair Witch Project. The first installment has been released which sets out to give us a glimpse of what the Walt Disney Studio Archives may bring us:

- Although D23 has announced that Kingdom Keepers author and Peter and the Starcatchers co-author Ridley Pearson will be appearing at the Expo, it hasn’t yet officially detailed when. According to his twitter and official site, however, Ridley will be giving a talk at the Expo on Friday, September 11 at 8:30 am. However, as this would place him half an hour before the Expo opens to the general public, this may not be correct. While we await confirmation, Ridley has informed us that Stitch will be appearing in KK3: Disney in Shadow. So that’s good.

In the Company of Legends SM- You may have read the D23 Q&A article with Disney artist Tim Rogerson. While Tim has produced the official poster art for the Expo (titled In the Company of Legends), the image shown in the article is only a portion of the full art, which has left many confused as noted on D23′s facebook page. Tim has posted the full image himself on his own personal blog (where you can see a much larger version than the one pictured here), however (see the D23 article for pricing information). Also on his blog is the artwork he produced for the 2009 Epcot Food and Wine Festival.

If you’re headed to the Expo or just plain curious, make sure you follow us on Twitter or periodically check this link for all the latest news about the D23 Expo.
