Cast of ‘The Lion King’ Las Vegas to Perform During 2010 Daytime Emmy Awards
CBS has just announced that the Las Vegas cast of Disney Theatrical’s The Lion King will perform during the 37th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards airing live from the Las Vegas Hilton on Sunday, June 27 from 9 PM – 11 PM ET/PT. The performance joins a previously announced line-up of Vegas-based acts such as the Blue Man Group, Cirque du Soleil and the showgirls of Jubilee. The awards show will be hosted by Regis Philbin.
Disney Consumer Products Offers First Look at Perry the Platypus Walkaround Character
We’ve known for a while that Phineas and Ferb have existed as walkaround characters and have made occasional appearances at both the Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts, although they have not started meet & greets as of yet.
Thanks to this new video from Disney Consumer Products, we now get our first look at a Perry the Platypus walkaround character. Perry (as Agent P) and Phineas and Ferb were joined on stage by legendary Vegas entertainer Wayne Newtown who paid a special tribute to the secret agent. The special performance was part of Disney Consumer Product’s closing presentation at the 2010 Licensing International Expo.

A 5’3″ LEGO model of Buzz Lightyear, constructed from 40,000 LEGO bricks in 250 hours by 3 Master Builders, was unveiled by Disney Consumer Products at the Licensing International Expo to showcase the excitement “building” around the classic Toy Story franchise. Disney will support the franchise with the re-release of the first two movies in 3D for a two week engagement this October, a third new movie in summer 2010 and a spectacular consumer products line.
D23 Announces Lion King Las Vegas Getaway for Two Sweepstakes
As we mentioned last month, D23 is offering its members a chance to win a 3 day/2 night stay at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas for two which includes attending a performance of the Lion King musical, admission to the resort’s Shark Reef aquarium and a $100 discount on a resort cabana rental. The vacation must take place by September 30, 2009.
To enter, all you need to do is write a 300 word or less essay on why you love the Lion King. Entries must be received by 11:59 pm on June 15, 2009 and the winner will be notified by July 1.
Tickets Now Available for D23′s Lion King Roar into Vegas Event
D23 members can now purchase tickets to the D23 Lion King Roar into Vegas event. Purchase tickets to the June 27 performance for $113.50 per ticket and receive an exclusive behind-the-scenes experience after the show. You’ll also get a premium seating location, complimentary admission to the Founder’s Room at the hotel’s House of Blues, a commemorative souvenir program and an exclusive merchandise item.
Tickets will be available via will-call only and you must have your D23 card and a photo ID to claim them.

D23 Announces Contest to Win Getaway Package to Las Vegas

One D23 member and a guest will have the chance to win a 2 night stay at Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay Resort, home to Disney Theatrical’s The Lion King and being able to see the show will be just the beginning.
Get your thinking caps on because in order to run with the pack (mind the wildebeests, please), contest entrants will be asked to write an essay on why they love the Lion King (in 300 words or less).

The Lion King Las Vegas Cast Announced
From Broadway.com comes reports of who will be performing in The Lion King at the Mandalay Bay when previews begin May 5. The Vegas company features an international cast of performers who have starred in productions of The Lion King around the world, including New York, Taipei, South Africa, London, Los Angeles, Australia, Toronto, Shanghai, Paris and Holland. The cast includes nine South African natives, and three ensemble members from Las Vegas. Full story here.
Lion King Las Vegas Tickets on Sale Feb 28 – Free Gifts
According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, tickets for the Lion King Las Vegas will go on sale February 28 beginning at 7 am at the Mandalay Bay Box office and until 10 am (or supplies are exhausted), ticket buyers will receive free gifts. The first 100 buyers will receive a complimentary original cast recording CD of the musical while the first buyer will also get signed copies of The Lion King: Pride Rock on Broadway and Disney Theatrical president Thomas Schumacher’s How Does the Show Go On? There will be an additional gift available to all while supplies last.
The New King of Vegas Postpones Opening
Simba will just have to wait a couple more weeks. Originally slated to open in April, TheaterMania is reporting The Lion King Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay will now start performances on May 5 with a grand opening on May 15 due to theater construction.
