With the actual attraction name yet to be announced/confirmed, the Oriental Land Company (OLC) today announced that it will be closing ‘Captain EO’ on June 30, 2014 to make way for a new attraction to debut at Tokyo Disneyland. The new attraction will be akin to ‘Stitch Encounter’ at Hong Kong Disneyland and ‘Stitch Live!’ at Walt Disney Studios Paris in that it will allow up to 160 guests to ‘communicate with Stitch, who is in outer space, in real time over the theater’s large screen. The entire family will enjoy the fun-filled conversations with the mischievous Stitch.’
When it comes to releasing animated classics from Walt Disney Animation Studios, there appears to be little to no rhyme or reason for the release order and timing — at times it’s just downright mayhem. When Blu-ray releases seem to conveniently coincide with a release date anniversary milestone, such as Mulan’s 15th, and touted as such, it often makes consumers wonder why some films seem to have been forgotten.
Enter Lilo & Stitch which celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2012. Unfortunately the year came and went without any fanfare save for a respectable mention at D23’s national ‘Fanniversary’ events. In 2013, however, 11 years after the film’s release, the tides are apparently about to turn.
