The 107th annual American International Toy Fair is about to kick off in New York City and we couldn’t be more excited. In honor of the 1200+ exhibitors showing off their latest and greatest in toys, we thought we’d take a sneak peek at some of the new Disney toys from Mattel that you can expect to find at your favorite retailer later this year.
We’ll start with this summer’s most anticipated event: Toy Story 3.
First up is the Buzz Lightyear Deluxe Action Wing Pack (Ages 6+; MSRP $49.99; Available May). Junior Space Rangers can sport this backpack style gear which — at a touch of a button — pops out a set of their very own wings, useful for flying or simply falling with style. Other buttons speak some of Buzz’s most popular catchphrases, but the coolest part of all is that the wings can sense when they’re in the horizontal position and will automatically play ‘flying’ noises. When the mission’s been accomplished, the wings contract at the press of a button.
If you’ve been following the TS3 news and have seen the new trailer, you probably already know that Ken (Michael Keaton) joins the Toy Story family and given that Mattel is the home of Ken and Barbie, the Barbie Toy Story 3 Made For Each Other Gift Set (Ages 3+; MSRP $24.99; Available May) is a zero-brainer. The pair of dolls help re-live the magic of the film dressed in the style as they appear on screen.
Later this month, Disney Parks Merchandise will debut a collection of four 200-piece jigsaw puzzles based on classic Star Wars posters. Each puzzle, measuring 9×13, features Disney-Star Wars merchandise previously sold in the parks and retails for $10.95

“Today we’re making every animation art collector’s Courvoisier dreams come true,” said Michael Young, President of Collectors Editions, publisher of Disney Fine Art and exclusive global distributor for Courvoisier Miniatures. “I am thrilled to announce the immediate availability of Courvoisier Miniatures©, an important and unique line of Disney vintage-style animation art.”
In 1937, Courvoisier Galleries introduced original Disney animation art to the world and — for ten years — sold the brilliant pieces that today form the cornerstone of virtually every collection of vintage Disney art.
“The idea behind the new Courvoisier Miniatures program was to turn back the clock and rekindle the Disney flame of those bygone times and bring the techniques that personified Disney art in 1937 to a whole new generation,” said David Pacheco, Disney Master Artist and art director for the program. “It has been more than 60 years since Disney produced artwork like Courvoisier Miniatures. Now Disney art devotees and collectors can not only acquire real handmade Disney fine art, but acquire it at an affordable price as well.”
“This unique and exciting program of re-creating Disney art using original vintage materials and techniques was 15 years in the making”, said Ron Stark, Director of S/R Laboratories Animation Art Conservation Center in Westlake Village, California, where all Courvoisier Miniatures are made by Disney-trained master animation artists, decorated, and framed. “All the old methods and formulas now live at S/R Labs. Even our pen points are 50 years old, and are the same used to create the brilliant Disney art decades ago.”
About 55,000 of metal toy necklaces featuring The Princess and the Frog and sold exclusively by Walmart between November 2009 and January 2010 have been voluntarily recalled due to high levels of cadmium which can be toxic if ingested by children.
The necklaces, manufactured in China, are produced by FAF, Inc. of Greenville, R.I. and sold for about $5 each.
Parents who purchased these items are advised to take them away immediately from children and return them to Walmart for either a full refund or a replacement product.
No incidents related to this product have been reported at this time.
Disney today announced a stunning collection of apparel and accessories inspired by its upcoming feature Alice In Wonderland, Tim Burton’s highly anticipated film, featuring favorite characters from the classic Lewis Carroll tales, releasing on the big screen on March 5, 2010 (U.S. theaters). Disney Consumer Products (DCP) collaborated with renowned jewelry designer, Tom Binns, leading fashion designer Sue Wong and Swarovski, the world’s largest producer of cut crystals, to create an interpretive line that brings the allure and mystery of the film and characters to life.
As part of the Alice fashion experience, DCP and Bloomingdale’s have joined forces to create one-of-a-kind window displays at Bloomingdale’s flagship 59th Street store in New York City. The windows will feature props from the film and highlight a selection of items from the designer line including Sue Wong for Walt Disney Signature dresses and Tom Binns for Walt Disney Signature jewelry. The windows at 59th street will be complemented by a special exhibit in the contemporary sportswear department on the second floor, which will feature select costumes and props detailed with information from the film.
In addition, seven Bloomingdale’s stores across the U.S. including the NY flagship store will enhance their Alice In Wonderland merchandise displays with special signage and video screens that will play behind-the-scenes footage and select bonus material. The stores include Beverly Center, CA, Century City, CA, San Francisco, CA, South Coast Plaza, CA, Aventura, FL and Short Hills, NJ. The Bloomingdale’s Alice In Wonderland-inspired windows and in-store displays are planned to set in early March.
“The arresting settings and characters in Tim Burton’s interpretation of Alice In Wonderland provided great inspiration and have made it possible for us to work with this renowned group of designers to create a truly unique collection of lifestyle products that will continue to position Disney at the forefront of fashion trends,” said Pam Lifford, executive vice president, global fashion and home, DCP. “Our collaboration with Bloomingdale’s brings it all together in a way that is fun and interesting for consumers and Disney fans alike.”
