‘Brave’ New Hi-Res Concept Art, ‘Monsters Inc’ Prequel Titled

Brave©Disney/Pixar. All Rights Reserved.

Yesterday, we were one of the first to bring you hi-res concept art from Disney/Pixar’s original fairy tale, Brave. Today, we are pleased to bring you yet another additional image for the film. The new concept art image has been added to the beginning of our gallery of concept art below.

The rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland serve as the backdrop for Brave, a new tale that joins the land’s ancient lore — stories of epic battles and mystical legends passed down for generations. Directed by Mark Andrews and Brenda Chapman, and produced by Katherine Sarafian, Brave is the grand adventure of Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald), a skilled archer who confronts tradition, destiny and the fiercest of beasts to discover the true meaning of courage. The film also features the voices of Emma Thompson, Billy Connolly, Julie Walters, Kevin McKidd, Craig Ferguson and Robbie Coltrane. Brave, full of heart, memorable characters and Pixar’s signature humor, takes aim at theaters on June 22, 2012.

In related news, it’s being reported that Disney/Pixar has confirmed that the sequel to Monsters, Inc. will in fact be a prequel as we originally reported and will be sub-titled Monsters University.

‘Monsters, Inc. 2′ to be Prequel to Original Disney/Pixar Film (Spoiler)

Citing a Disney film catalog distributed to film owners, Disney Central Plaza has reported on the apparent official synopsis for the highly anticipated second installment of the Monsters, Inc. franchise. The official synopsis was seemingly not published, so it is summarized below.

Slated to be released on November 2, 2012, the second film will take us back to before a time when Mike Wazowski was top comedian, before James P. Sullivan was top scarer, even before the buddies joined the MI workforce. In fact it takes us all the way back to school — the University of Fear to be precise.

Although the two start out as frenemies, Monsters, Inc. 2 will weave the tale of how the dynamic duo transition from rivals to BFFs.

Disney Shuffles ‘Monsters,’ Kills the ‘Beast’ and Saves the Date for ‘Prom’

Walt Disney Studios made some announcements earlier today regarding its upcoming slate. Fearing sparkling vampires, Mike Wazowski and Sulley will be making their triumphant return to the silver scream in Monsters Inc. 2 a whopping two weeks earlier now on November 2, 2012.

Despite the tremendous buzz and many supporters, it appears that the already-rescheduled Beauty and the Beast 3D may not make it to theaters in the United States after-all as it has been completely removed from the upcoming release slate. Originally expected to be released in 2010 and then in 2011, the special edition of the film is slated for a limited release overseas later this year.

An update from The Hollywood Reporter suggests the film is still destined for North American theaters, just at a much later date, after consumers have more widely bought into the 3D home theater experience, although that argument appears to hold little water given the number of 3D films being released theatrically to start with, let alone the three releases in 3D from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment later this year (bundled with 2D versions of the films).

Finally, Walt Disney Studios has set a release date for Prom for April 29, 2011.

Pixar Makes Announcements Official: ‘Brave’ and ‘Monsters, Inc. 2′ on Their Way

During an otherwise reportedly lackluster presentation by Walt Disney Studios President Rich Ross, Disney has formally announced the upcoming releases of Pixar’s Brave (formerly The Bear and the Bow, the news of the re-dubbing we first broke here) to be released on June 15, 2012 and the long anticipated sequel, Monsters Inc 2 which currently carries a release date of November 16, 2012.
