Throughout this past week, MINDstyle has teased its upcoming release of Disney Pook-A-Looz Vinyl Adult Toy Collectibles (ATC), Series 1. Unfortunately, not much information was provided on the collection other than the partial images of Mickey Mouse, Winnie the Pooh, Pinocchio and Pluto seen here (although the MINDstyle blog referred to Pluto as Goofy, so that may be another hint).
Mickey Mouse isn’t the only Disney friend to enter the TRON grid anymore thanks to this first look at the sculpt of an upcoming MINDstyle adult toy collectible (ATC). Unfortunately the vinyl figure will be exclusive to the Man Is In The Forest concept store in Shanghai. The shop actually got its name from the film Bambi, although it’s said that the line itself was also used by Disney animators to spread word that Walt Disney was present at the Studios.
MINDstyle has been promoting Epic Mickey in a very vague way as of late and with the other merchandising for the game going on, particularly through Hot Topic, it’d be of little shock if MINDstyle were to produce vinyl adult toy collectibles (ATCs) in support of the game. In fact, it might even be more shocking if they weren’t (or at least Medicom which is producing the VCD of Mickey in the collector’s edition of the game).
Enter Animatronic Donald Duck. I’ll be honest, this may not be news, but this is the first time I’ve personally seen any form of these animatronic Disney characters since the initial concept art was leaked. According to the blog entry from MINDstyle:
‘The Mad Doctor has been fiddling with these classic Disney characters and scattering them everywhere, while Oswald has been attempting to put them back together out of loneliness. One of the choices that Mickey can eventually make is whether he wants to put Donald (and, presumably, the likes of Goofy and Pluto as well etc.) back together. In Epic Mickey, the animatronic Donald and other animatronic versions of Mickey’s friends were constructed for Oswald the Lucky Rabbit so that he could have friends like Mickey’s in his efforts to try and mimic his brother’s life.’
A smaller version of Jenny Chung’s Lilo CosPlay Experiment 626 figure was available exclusively as a purchase with purchase at the D23 Expo in 2009. Guests who made a qualifying purchase (it was the TRON-painted V.I.N.CENT for myself) were able to purchase up to three of the CosPlay figures for $23 each. To their credit, however, MINDstyle added to each pre-order an additional figure gratis due to some complications with order fulfillment. Now Chung has followed up with a new Lilo CosPlay figure inspired by the Experiment 626 project, this time Lilo is dressed as Stitch’s gal-pal, Angel. Perhaps most remarkable of all, MINDstyle says it will be available at select Disney Store locations this holiday season.
Although MINDstyle apparently has given a first look of it several months ago, it has recently announced that Eric Tan’s Lava Stitch vinyl collectible, a follow-up to the Tiki Stitch, will also be available for this holiday season at select retail locations, although presumably not Disney Store.
MINDstyle has announced that they will launch the Tin Toy vinyl art toy collectible (ATC) at San Diego Comic-con later this month.
Limited to 500 pieces worldwide, the piece is inspired by the title character in the Pixar Animation Studios Short Tin Toy as created by John Lasseter and is often cited as the inspiration behind Pixar’s first feature-length film, Toy Story.
What happens when more than 30 Disney and Pixar artists are asked to put their spin on the adorable little green men from the Toy Story trilogy? That’s what MINDstyle asked and what they got was the ‘Alien Invasion: When Aliens Meet Artists’ sculpture exhibition that recently opened in Hong Kong.
Using a basic mold of a Toy Story Alien, each artist put their spin on the film icon and MINDstyle has begun sharing just a few of them for those of us unable to attend the exhibition in person. Included are artists Anthony Whitfield, Ben Butcher, Bacon Tan, Brian Godlewski, Ben Su, Charlie Price, Chris Meeker, Dennis Cannon, Elaine Chang, Elena Eghtesady, Hyun Ju Park and Pat Au.
Today we are blessed with first looks of several figures from the Alien Invasion project by MINDstyle. Featuring contributions from 30 Disney and Pixar artists, each have put their own individual spin on a blank figure in the shape of the LGM from the Toy Story films.
The exhibition tour kicks off June 15 at Hong Kong’s Times Square. For a preview of other figures from the exhibit, check out MINDstyle’s official blog.
We also get our first look at MINDstyle’s limited edition art toy collectible (ATC) of the main character from John Lasseter’s original short, Tin Toy. The figure will first be released at San Diego Comic Con. No word on edition size or whether it will be an exclusive to the SDCC.
MINDStyle revealed on its blog earlier today that the first stop on the Alien Invasion tour will take place in Hong Kong this summer. In addition to acknowledging the inclusion of artist Secret Base, the new announcement notes that the re-imagings of the Toy Story alien will include offerings from Disney and Pixar artists.

Following the success of its Experiment 626 Project in which artists put their unique spins on Stitch-shaped vinyl figures and the recently announced mini-Stitch figures, MINDstyle announced today that it will be releasing a series of figures based on the alien from Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story series. According to the graphic, we can expect the invasion to begin in early summer.
MINDstyle has announced Series #1 of Stitch Mini-Figure vinyl collectibles. Sharing a lot in common with the Mickey Mouse-shaped Vinylmations from the Disney Design Group, the creator of the Experiment 626 project has transformed the mini vinyl Stitch figures into some of the most beloved Disney characters of all time.
At 3″, each series will consist of 10 figures sold for $9.95 each in a blind pack plus a chaser and a super-chaser. Like Vinylmation, trays of 24 will be available for sale which includes two complete sets of 10 plus the chaser and super-chaser.
Availability for the series has not yet been announced.
