The premiere weekend event will include a guided tour of the set of the upcoming comedy series “JONAS” by stars Kevin, Joe and Nick Jonas, as well as an exclusive sneak peek of the upcoming Disney/Pixar feature film, “Up.”

In “Hatching Pete,” Pete Ivey (played by Dolley) is a quiet and often overlooked 16-year-old who must stand in for his outgoing best friend Cleatus Poole (played by Musso) when Cleatus cannot complete his duties as their high school mascot, a chicken. The chicken mascot, with Pete anonymously behind the mask, soon becomes the main attraction at school, but no one knows it’s not Cleatus in the suit. Once it’s revealed that Cleatus is not in the costume, it’s up to Pete to decide if he’s willing to step into the spotlight.

Dwayne Johnson in Race to Witch Mountain (c) Disney

Can you smellllllllllll what the Disney publicity machine is cookin’? The actor formerly known as The Rock, Dwayne Johnson, is working overtime to promote the release of Race to Witch Mountain this Friday. After hosting FOX’s Animation Domination last week, Johnson did double duty this weekend, hosting both Saturday Night Live as well as a Disney marathon of films on Starz Sunday night. And he has not yet begun to promote.

This week you’ll find him on Live With Regis and Kelly and BET’s 106 & Park on Monday, The Tonight Show on Thursday and CBS’s The Early Show, Ellen Degeneres and Jimmy Kimmel on Friday. Wednesday is his day off (it’s also the night of the premiere at the El Capitan).

You’ll also find his some of his co-stars working the boob tube as well. Carla Gugino will appear on Ellen Degeneres on Tuesday and Bonnie Hunt will host Garry Marshall on Wednesday and both AnnaSophia Robb and Alexander Ludwig on Friday.

The overall theme was setting focus on the Disney brand name and transforming Disney.com into one stop shopping for all things Disney. On the movie front, this means shying away from producing non-Disney branded films (the deal with DreamWorks involves minimal investment relying mostly on the use of ‘other people’s money’ and results in bigger profit margins for the distributor). Iger also discussed the concern of movie piracy but suggested rather than using the record industry as an example, that the company consider lowering price points and simplifying distribution such as digital downloads that get the product into the consumer’s hands more quickly.

On the theme parks, Iger said attendance is ‘chugging along reasonably well’ and that current attendance is on par with last year’s, but concedes that per capita spending is down on items such as merchandise and that discounts are abundant. Iger mentioned the ‘fantastic’ American Idol Experience which he ‘experienced,’ but denies ever auditioning for the attraction.

Addressing an audience member’s concern on the recent announcements regarding layoffs and early exits, Iger said decisions were difficult as he personally knows many employees affected by the situation but that the boss was the bottom line and that if demand for services is falling, upkeeping the numbers of employees just isn’t justified. He noted that the company is growing by developing projects in other countries and that creates jobs and redeployment of the employees was a considered option but ultimately not a viable one.

Buzz words for Iger included affinity, subscribers and CRM (Customer Relationship Management) and how those things could be leveraged by the company in respect to someone who’s a fan of Disney in general. Although these words and phrases were peppered throughout the presentation, it all ultimately built up to where Iger talks about the ‘Disney subscriber’ being able to be a ‘member of a Disney affinity club which is something [he thinks we'll] be able to see sometime soon … maybe even as early as a few days.’

“High School Musical 4” brings the franchise back to television in a music and dance-filled Disney Channel Original Movie that will introduce a new cast of characters. It is scheduled to begin production later this year for premiere on Disney Channel in 2010. The announcement was made today by Gary Marsh, president, Entertainment, Disney Channels Worldwide.

Marsh said: “The ‘High School Musical’ trilogy introduced a new generation to the celebrated genre of movie musicals. In crafting this next iteration, we’ve challenged the entire creative team to raise the bar again — and create something truly worthy of this extraordinary global phenomenon.”

The screenwriter of “High School Musical 4” is Peter Barscocchini who wrote each of the three movies in the franchise. Bill Borden and Barry Rosenbush return as the executive producers.

Disney’s Emmy Award-winning “High School Musical” premiered in January 2006 on Disney Channel in the U.S. It went on to become a smash hit internationally, airing on Disney Channels and free-to-air broadcasters worldwide. To-date it has reached more than 290 million viewers in over 20 languages across 100 countries, including India, China and Russia.

The “High School Musical” soundtrack was the #1 album of 2006 and the DVD was the year’s #1 TV movie on DVD. “High School Musical” also delivered licensed amateur and professional touring stage productions, a best-selling junior novel, a popular consumer products franchise, a themed show at Disneyland Parks and Resorts in Anaheim, Orlando and Paris, and a sold-out, 42-date arena concert tour in North America and Latin America.

The movie’s critically acclaimed sequel, “High School Musical 2,” ranks as the #1 basic cable telecast of all time (18.6 million viewers for its August 2007 premiere) and thus far has been seen by nearly 300 million Total Viewers in 24 languages around the world. The “High School Musical 2” soundtrack is triple Platinum, and its DVD release was the top-selling TV property on DVD for 2007.

Walt Disney Pictures debuted “High School Musical 3: Senior Year” in theatres in October 2008. Its premiere weekend box office sales marked the highest debut ever for a musical and for a live-action G-rated film. Thus far it has grossed $250 million at the box office around the world. “High School Musical: Senior Year, Extended Edition” on DVD released in February.

“Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience” came in at No. 2 with estimated three-day sales of $12.7 million, distributor Walt Disney Co (DIS.N) said on Sunday.

The studio had hoped for $15 million, which itself paled against wild industry forecasts that reached as high as $25 million.

The film’s core audience of screaming young girls was evidently outnumbered by the older black women who ensured that “Madea Goes to Jail” logged a second term at No. 1.

The comedy about a tough-talking old lady earned $16.5 million, taking its 10-day total to $64.9 million. The Lionsgate release has already become the biggest of the six movies prolific filmmaker Tyler Perry has released since February 2005. Perry, 39, dons drag to play Madea, a character featured in many of his critic-proof films and plays.

Meanwhile, “Slumdog Millionaire” jumped two places to a new high of No. 3, on the heels of its eight Oscar wins last Sunday. The Mumbai-set romantic drama earned $12.2 million, the biggest haul for a best-picture winner in at least 10 years, said distributor Fox Searchlight.

The three-day haul represented a 45 percent increase over last weekend’s sales, thanks in part to a boost in the theater count by almost a third. British director Danny Boyle’s film has earned $115.1 million after 16 weekends.

Other key Oscar winners also enjoyed bumps, albeit from low levels. “The Reader,” which yielded the best actress statuette for Kate Winslet, earned $2.9 million, up 10 percent. The total for the Weinstein Co. release stands at $27 million.

“Milk,” for which Sean Penn won best actor, grossed $1.5 million, a 35 percent boost. The Focus Features release has earned $30.1 million to date.
