Yesterday, the Walt Disney Company celebrated its 90th anniversary commemorating the date Roy and Walt Disney signed the contracts to produce the ‘Alice Comedies.’ In Chicago, the city in which Walt Disney himself was born, the anniversary was honored by the opening of the ‘D23 Presents the Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives’ exhibit at Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry (MSI).

Walt Disney Family Museum to Explore Stop-Motion Animation; Exhibit Opens September 27

Curated by WDFM Registrar and Curatorial Assistant Anel Muller, the exhibition explores the evolution of stop motion animation in the United States — especially in special effects, television, and film — while examining some of the key milestones and innovators including Willis O’ Brien (King Kong), Tim Burton (The Nightmare Before Christmas), Art Clokey (‘Gumby’), Ray Harryhausen (It Came From Beneath the Sea), Henry Selick (Coraline and James and the Giant Peach), Phil Tippett (Star Wars and Jurassic Park) and more.

On Friday, July 6, 2012, the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Library will debut its newest rotating exhibit in partnership with The Walt Disney Company, ‘D23 Presents Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives at the Ronald Reagan Library.’ This will represent the largest single, assembled collection of items from the Studio’s Archives ever on public display which is fitting as the Reagan Library’s Museum is the largest of its kind, welcoming more than half a million visitors annually and housing an actual Boeing 707 jet which served as Air Force One for several United States presidents, including Ronald Reagan, the last to use this specific plane.
