Disney Theatrical Productions has announced that it will be bringing two brand-new productions of its long-running Broadway smash musical, ‘The Lion King’ to both the Shanghai Disney Resort and Mexico City, in partnership with Disney Parks and Resorts and OCESA respectively. The announcement was made today by Thomas Schumacher, president and producer, Disney Theatrical Productions. The two productions will be the 23rd and 24th mounted around the world since the show’s Broadway debut in 1997.
Walt Disney Records and Disney Theatrical have released the original cast recording of ‘Friend Like Me’ as performed by Tony Award nominee James Monroe Iglehart as the Genie in the Broadway musical’s showstopping number. You can hear the song in its entirety embedded below.
In addition to Iglehart’s nomination, the show was also nominated for four other awards: Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical (Chad Beguelin), Best Original Score (Music and/or Lyrics) Written for the Theatre (Music: Alan Menken, Lyrics: Howard Ashman, Tim Rice and Chad Begeulin) and Best Choreography (Casey Nicholaw).
In honor of William Shakespeare’s 450th birthday, Disney Theatrical and Sonia Friedman Productions today announced its initial cast for ‘Shakespeare in Love’ which begins performances on July 2, 2014 at the Noel Coward Theatre in London with an opening date of July 23.
Earlier today, Disney Theatrical announced that it will be offering same-day ticket programs for both ‘Newsies’ as well as its newest Broadway family member, ‘Aladdin.’
Beginning two and a half hours before each performance, patrons can sign up to enter a lottery drawing for ‘Aladdin’ tickets which will be held two hours before showtime at the New Amsterdam Theatre (214 W 42nd Street). Winners will be able to purchase up to two tickets each for $30 each ticket (cash only).
On April 29, 2014, Walt Disney Records will release a three-track digital EP titled ‘Let It Go: Remixes’ according to a new listing on Amazon.
The album will contain the following remixes of the smash hit ‘Let It Go’ as performed in the film by Idina Menzel: Dave Audé Club Remix, Papercha$er Club Remix and DJ Escape & Tony Coluccio Club Remix.

With what is undoubtedly an unprecedented move, Walt Disney Records is further capitalizing on the success of Disney Animation’s Frozen and its ‘Let It Go’ theme by releasing a ‘three disc set’ featuring fifty tracks consisting of official, international versions of the song, often in both film and end title formats, titled Let It Go: The Complete Set.
No official announcement from Walt Disney Records has been made yet, but he album showed up on Amazon last night as an MP3 album with a release date of April 15, 2014.
Tomorrow, March 29, 2014, ‘Newsies’ will celebrate its second anniversary on Broadway. Originally scheduled for just 101 performances, demand from audiences has kept it running strong to its 900th performance. To commemorate the event, Disney Theatrical has provided us with new stills from the production by photographer Matthew Murphy, which you can find in our gallery embedded below. The stills feature cast members Liana Hunt (Katherine), Corey Cott (Jack Kelly), Iain Young, Hogan Fulton and Jacob Guzman.
In honor of today’s Blu-ray release of Frozen (with a still unconfirmed release of the 3D Blu-ray in October), Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment and Disney Movies Anywhere released this featurette focusing on co-directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, producer Peter Del Vecho, art director Michael Giaimo and others as they explore the Frozen suite at the Hotel de Glace in Quebec City, Canada. Long before the creation of the suite, however, the hotel itself was crucial to the animation process for Frozen as it served as reference material for the way light was reflected against the ice creations.
As part of its annual tribute to Oscar winners (and sometimes nominees), Mondo has announced it will be releasing its poster for Frozen by artist Tom Whalen at a random time tomorrow, March 18, 2014 (usually between 10 am – 12 pm ET, but never guaranteed). Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment’s confirmation of nothing to announce for the 3D Blu-ray edition of Disney’s Frozen has made fans feel as though they were left out in the cold, with many resorting to order the 3D edition from overseas, amidst fears of ‘double-dipping.’ Although there has been no official announcement, marketing materials obtained by Stitch Kingdom have indeed confirmed plans for an October 2014 release of the 3D Blu-ray/DVD release of Frozen.
