The hosts of “The View” will introduce the world television premiere performance of the brand new Disney stage musical, “NEWSIES,” adapted from the popular Disney film starring Christian Bale, live, Monday, September 19 at 11 am ET on ABC. Academy Award-winning composer Alan Menken, who wrote music for the 1992 motion picture Newsies and has won eight Oscars for such memorable scores as Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, and Pocahontas, is a featured guest and will help introduce the cast performance medley of both “Santa Fe” and “Seize The Day.” “NEWSIES” is presented by Paper Mill Playhouse.
From now through June 12, Disney fans are invited to order tickets to the new musical making its theatrical debut at the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, New Jersey on September 15. Those taking advantage of the pre-sale can also save an additional 10% by using code FBDISNEY either online or by calling 973-376-4343.
Directed by Jeff Calhoun and with a book written by Harvey Fierstein, the musical also features songs by composer Alan Menken and lyricist Jack Feldman who collaborated for the stage adaptation.
Sometimes we manage to weave a tale so peculiar and convoluted that we can barely believe it ourselves. This is one of them.
Enter the 1992 cult-classic Disney musical, Newsies. Back in March of 2010, we first reported about Disney Theatrical working on a staged adaptation of the film, purportedly destined for Broadway. This was later confirmed to be true and announced earlier this year that the musical would premiere this fall at the Paper Mill Playhouse (September 15 – October 16, to be exact).
Which then begs the question, what of the show come mid-October? If you’re still with us, great, because all of this is standard, known stuff.
You might want to sit down for this one. This week has been busy on the Disney domain registration front. First we brought some very widely received news about several domains registered by Walt Disney Studios for potential upcoming projects, DreamWorks titles in the works and a possible name-change for Secretariat.
Then it’s reported that Disney Theatrical is working on a staged musical production of Dumbo. Today, we catch a glimpse of another project Disney Theatrical is apparently working on: Newsies. The 1992 Christian Bale vehicle was a major flop for the Disney Studios but eventually became somewhat of a cult hit on video.
