‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Sites Let You Customize Skulls, Pirate Yourself and Destroy Your Friends
Via the official Pirates of the Caribbean Facebook page, Walt Disney Studios recently announced the official Pirate Skull Creator app available at PirateSkullCreator.com. The app allows you to start with the infamous silver skull from the Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides poster and customize it with everything from hair to jewelry to physical damage to teeth and eyes. When complete, you’ll have the option to export your creation to your Facebook page or save it in various sizes and formats including desktop and mobile wallpaper sizes.
This, of course, is enough to please the landlubbers. But we be pirates here at the Kingdom of Stitch and common knowledge isn’t enough to satisfy our hungers. So avast, me hearties and listen to what else we managed to unearth while pillaging the house of mouse.
The popular app from days long gone has return with a new twist. Now you can Pirate Yourself the On Stranger Tides way with PirateYourself.com. Simply webcam, Facebook or upload a photo of yourself, tweak it and then piratize your self the way your mother intended you to be. The controls be a bit awkward at times, but it’s well worth it. Photos and accessories can be place, resized and rotated as desired, leaving plenty of options for those that command it.
We also managed to find an online game called Battleship Galleons that allows you to choose a ship captain from the film and then battle a friend on the high seas. Although they don’t seem quite ready to be played, we found two versions: an international version which currently lets you play against the computer and the domestic version which seems like it would let you select a Facebook friend to compete against but does not appear to be working at this time.

Photos: ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Star Penelope Cruz Receives Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame
Earlier today, actress Penelope Cruz, who takes on the role of Blackbeard’s daughter, Angelica, in Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides (May 20, 2011) was honored by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce when she was awarded her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. On hand to celebrate were co-star Johnny Depp, who referred to Cruz as ‘the Ricky to my Lucy,’ film producer Jerry Bruckheimer, director Rob Marshall and Cruz’s husband, Javier Bardem.
An Academy Award® winner, Penelope Cruz has proven herself to be one of the most versatile actresses by playing a variety of compelling characters, and most recently, becoming the first actress from Spain to be nominated and to win an Oscar®.
First introduced to American audiences in the Spanish films Jamon, Jamon and Belle Epoque, in 1998 she starred in her first English language film, The Hi-Lo Country for director Stephen Frears opposite Woody Harrelson, Patricia Arquette and Billy Crudup. In 1999, Cruz won the Best Actress award at the 13th Annual Goya Awards given by the SpanishAcademy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences for her role in Fernando Trueba’s The Girl of Your Dreams.
Confirming her status as an international actress, Cruz landed a series of coveted roles. She appeared in Billy Bob Thornton’s All the Pretty Horses, Fina Torres’ Woman on Top, Alejandro Amenabar’s Open Your Eyes, and Maria Ripoli’s Twice Upon a Yesterday. Additionally, Cruz co-starred in Pedro Almodovar’s Live Flesh and the critically acclaimed All About My Mother, which was awarded the Golden Globe® and Oscar® for Best Foreign Film.
Next up for Cruz was a role opposite Pirates co-star Johnny Depp in Blow for director Ted Demme and Captain Corelli’s Mandolin opposite Nicolas Cage, followed by starring opposite Tom Cruise in Cameron Crowe’s thriller Vanilla Sky. She then tackled Masked & Anonymous, Fan Fan la Tulipe (which opened the 2003 Cannes Film Festival) and Don’t Tempt Me. She received rave reviews for her performance in Don’t Move (Non ti Muovere) in which she was honored with a David Di Donatello Award (Italian Oscar) and the European Film Award for Best Actress.
To add to her already diverse choice of film credits, she starred in films including Gothika, Head in the Clouds, and Sahara. In 2006, Cruz starred in Volver, which again teamed her with director and dear friend Pedro Almodovar. Critically-acclaimed for her role as Raimunda, she won the Best Actress awards at the European Film Awards, the Spanish Goya Awards, the Cannes Film Festival, and received both Golden Globe® and Oscar® nominations.
Her recent credits include Elegy opposite Sir Ben Kingsley and Woody Allen’s Vicky Cristina Barcelona opposite Javier Bardem and Scarlet Johansson. Cruz won an Oscar®, a BAFTA, a New York Film Critics Circle and a National Board of Review award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Vicky Cristina Barcelona.
In 2009, Cruz and Almodovar were back in action for the fourth time with Broken Embraces, for which she again received critical acclaim for her portrayal of Lena. Also that year, she teamed up with Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides director Rob Marshall for the first time and starred alongside Daniel Day Lewis, Nicole Kidman and Marion Cotillard in the film version of the musical Nine. Her standout portrayal of Carla garnered Screen Actors Guild®, Golden Globe® and Academy Award® nominations. Her third Oscar® nomination made history as it marked only the third time in Oscar history where the winner of the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress was nominated for the same award again in the following year.
Cruz is involved in the following charities: Worldwide (RED) campaign lead by Bono and Bobby Shiver, Artists for Peace and Justice in Haiti (APJ), UNICEF The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). She had the honor of working with Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity; volunteering in a leprosy clinic in India and she also worked with the Dalai Lama for the House of Tibet in Spain.

‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ Ride History Podcast, New Video Game Trailer
Walt Disney Studios Netherlands provides us with a couple of gems today for Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides, in theaters nationwide on May 20, 2011.
First up is a podcast video hosted by Geoffrey Rush, focusing briefly on the history of the Disneyland attraction that inspired the franchise. In addition to the ride background, including a televised introduction to the attraction by Walt Disney (Pirates of the Caribbean was the last attraction that Walt personally worked on), the podcast also shows quite a bit of footage from the film plus behind-the-scenes footage which includes Johnny Depp (in full Captain Jack Sparrow makeup) making a grand entrance via helicopter. Because it comes from overseas, the podcast is subtitled, but is entirely in English (we will replace it with a non-subtitled version as it becomes available).
Next up is a new trailer for the LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean video game from Disney Interactive Studios and TT Games. Composed of essentially all game footage (with the exception to some title games), it focuses on the Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest portion of the game, which allows players to experience all four films in the franchise in LEGO form. So be on the lookout for plenty of LEGO Davy Jones and even a re-creation of the final scene involving the Kraken (with a little surprise).
The video game will be available on all gaming platforms including Nintendo 3DS.
In related news, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Rob Marshall have recently announced there will be a fifth film in the franchise and Depp is attached to reprise his role.
UPDATE #1 – 4/1/11 – Swapped out video game trailer with HD English version.
