Phineas and Ferb Hit the Ice with NHL Merchandising Deal
The National Hockey League (NHL) and Disney Consumer Products have revealed plans to co-brand merchandise featuring characters from Disney Channel’s Emmy Award-winning animated series, Phineas and Ferb, in the 2011-12 NHL season. The NHL made the announcement today at the 2011 NHL Exchange licensed products and retail trade show inside the Air Canada Centre in Toronto.
The Disney and the NHL collection will include apparel, headwear, house and home products and collectibles featuring characters from Phineas and Ferb wearing NHL and team-branded merchandise. NHL and Disney licensees will deliver the new products to retail stores throughout North America in fall 2011, just in time for the new school year and the 2011-12 NHL season.
“The Phineas and Ferb brand evokes creativity, youthfulness and high energy, not unlike the NHL brand,” said Jim Haskins, Group Vice President, Consumer Product Licensing. “The NHL is thrilled to be working with such a premier Disney property as nearly one third of NHL fans are between the ages of six and 17, and 65 percent of those fans watch the Disney Channel.”
“Just like the game of hockey, Phineas and Ferb is successful because it appeals to a diverse demographic—kids and grown-ups, boys and girls,” said Stephen Teglas, vice president and general manager of Fashion & Home North America at Disney Consumer Products. “We look forward to bringing the humor of the series to NHL fans with a fun campaign at arenas and through clever products that showcase our two brands. It also seems like the kind of adventure that Phineas and Ferb would imagine.”

Slash ‘Kicks It Up A Notch’ with Phineas and Ferb on Movie Soundtrack
Walt Disney Records is set to release the soundtrack to Phineas and Ferb: Across The 1st and 2nd Dimensions, on August 2, 2011. The album features 7 new songs (“Everything’s Better With Perry,” “Brand New Best Friend,” “Summer (Where Do We Begin?),” “Taking Care Of Things,” “Mysterious Force,” “Robot Riot”) and the end credit track “Kick It Up a Notch,” the Phineas and Ferb collaboration with legendary guitarist Slash. The soundtrack also includes 15 songs from the hit animated series. The Disney Channel Original Movie “Phineas and Ferb: Across the 2nd Dimension” premieres Friday, August 5 (8 p.m., ET/PT), on Disney Channel: Saturday, August 13, on Disney XD: and also on the ABC Television Network (date TBD).
The “Kick It Up a Notch” music video opens with a live-action segment of Slash plugging his Gibson Les Paul guitar into an amp. An electric current travels through the wire and Slash becomes animated and is joined on stage by Phineas and Ferb. The video will debut July 22nd on Disney Channel.
In this animated adventure — based on Disney Channel’s Emmy Award-winning comedy series “Phineas and Ferb” — stepbrothers Phineas and Ferb go on their biggest journey yet, into another dimension! When the boys finally discover that their beloved pet platypus Perry is in fact a secret agent who battles the forces of evil daily, they join him on a grand adventure that blasts them to another dimension where a truly evil Dr. Doofenshmirtz has taken over an alternate Tri-state Area. When they uncover his ploy to travel back to their dimension to take over their Tri-state Area, the gang, as well as their alter-egos, must band together to stop him. “Phineas and Ferb: Across the 2nd Dimension” was executive-produced by Dan Povenmire and Jeff “Swampy” Marsh (“The Simpsons,” “Family Guy”).
Povenmire and Marsh said, “We’re thrilled about the music in ‘Phineas and Ferb: Across the 2nd Dimension.’ Music plays a big role in the movie just like the series. We always try to pepper in songs whenever we can to hook the audience in and a song gets you emotionally a lot quicker sometimes than dialogue would. It’s part of what makes things memorable about the show.”
On the collaboration with Slash, Povenmire added, “Slash is a rock icon, he’s our hero. We wanted a song that encapsulated the feeling of the series as well as the movie. Slash saw the movie with his kids and he liked it so much, he said, ‘Hey, let’s write a song together!’ It was really a dream come true.”
The relationship between Slash and the show creators was brokered by entertainment marketing consultant Al Hassas, who has played an instrumental role in building marketing alliances for Slash during the last few years.
Slash said, “I’m a big fan of ‘Phineas and Ferb.’ I watch a lot of cartoons and I think it’s one of the best shows. It’s well-written, very original and the characters are great. This whole experience has been surreal because I’m a big Disney fan. To be involved in this movie and having written some music for it is pretty exciting. It’s an honor to actually be animated in the ‘Kick It Up a Notch’ music video.”
On his collaboration with the show creators and composer, Slash added, “Working with Dan, Swampy and Danny Jacobs was just great. Very talented couple of guys. It was really easygoing. I had a guitar riff and they came up with lyrics and melodies instantaneously. Kids will dig it ’cause it has a lot of energy and the song has a great hook.”
The track listing for Phineas and Ferb: Across The 1st and 2nd Dimensions follows:
1. ”Everything’s Better With Perry”
2. ”Perfect Day”
3. ”Hey Ferb”
4. ”Brand New Best Friend”

Photos/Video: Perry the Platy-bus Tour Rocks Times Square in Honor of Phineas and Ferb Movie
Over the years, New York City has been host to several larger-than-life creatures — King Kong, Godzilla, Lady Gaga, to name but a few — but none of them could hold a candle to the 27-foot long semi-aquatic mammal known to his millions of fans as Perry the Platypus — or, in this case, Perry the Platy-bus!
That’s because the nationwide ‘Perry the Platy-bus on Tour’ kicked off the morning of July 11 in the heart of New York’s Times Square to the delight of hundreds of fans who participated in the event or were able to watch it live on the Disney Store Times Square jumbo marquee. The 27-foot long customized Airstream trailer will be heading to its final destination at the Disney D23 Expo August 19-21, stopping at San Diego Comic-Con along the way and other destinations yet-to-be-discovered.
The tour is all in support of the brand new Disney Channel Original Movie, ‘Phineas and Ferb Across the Second Dimension,’ premiering on Disney Channel on August 5. Based on the immensely successful series of near-same name, the movie takes Phineas and Ferb on an action-packed adventure across a second dimension where they discover an alternate parallel universe where the Tri-State Area has succumbed to the evil Dr. Doofenshmirtz. In a race to save both dimensions, Phineas and Ferb also discover a dark secret that will not only change their lives forever, but threatens to tear their family apart.
To kick off the tour, Disney Channel, Disney XD and Radio Disney joined forces to throw a party worthy of the epic event. While waiting for the Platy-bus reveal to happen, Radio Disney’s DJ Sandra D was on hand to warm up the fans with music, dancing and games, including the ‘squirrel in your pants’ game, inspired by a popular song from the series and Radio Disney supplied ample giveaways to the crowd, including exclusive t-shirts, frisbees and other items promoting the film.
At last, Phineas and Ferb themselves took the stage and soon joined by the New Jersey Repertory Theatre Glee Club, who performed the very catchy tune, ‘Everything’s Better with Perry,’ from the film. But where was Perry, wondered Phineas, at which point the Platy-bus was revealed to the world to thunderous applause.
Radio Disney ‘Celebrity Take with Jake’ host Jake Whetter then joined Phineas and Ferb to introduce the show’s creators and executive producers, Dan Povenmire and Jeff ‘Swampy’ Marsh, along with cast members Alyson Stoner (voice of Isabella Garcia-Shapiro) and Dee Bradley Baker, voice of Perry the Platypus. The celebrity guests entertained the crowd by providing a sample of their alter-egos, followed by a brief interview about the film and a final alter-ego farewell, with Baker doing an impression of the Platy-bus itself.
The festivities continued, with the cast and crew meeting & greeting with fans, with special meet & greet opportunities with Phineas and Ferb and a rare appearance by Agent P. Fans were also invited to partake in Perry-oke, singing songs from the television series, as well as boarding the Platy-bus itself, where clips from the movie were shown while fans could check out the ‘Phineas and Ferb Across the Second Dimension’ video game on the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS.
Below is our gallery of photos from the event. As always, click on any of the thumbnails to see a larger version of the image and, if the resize arrow appears, click it to view the image in its original size.
Please note that at this time, no touring schedule for the Platy-bus has been made available to us. We will update as soon as we become aware of one.
