Take a Sneak Peek Inside of D23 Magazine’s Summer 2010 Issue
Disney twenty-three magazine gives readers exclusive sneak previews of three of the most highly anticipated movies of the year in its all-new Summer issue, which premieres April 19 with three different covers to celebrate Disney-Pixar’s upcoming Toy Story 3.
For the first time in its history, Disney twenty-three has created a split run of three covers, featuring three of the most popular characters from the Toy Story movies: Buzz Lightyear, Woody and Jessie. Magazines will be shipped directly to Gold-level members of D23: The Official Community for Disney Fans; Disney twenty-three is also available at select Barnes & Noble and Borders bookstore locations, online at DisneyStore.com and throughout the Disneyland® and Walt Disney World® Resorts.
Fifteen pages of Disney twenty-three’s Summer issue are devoted to Disney’s cinematic offerings, and among them readers will find:
- Interviews with Nicolas Cage, Jake Gyllenhaal and Jerry Bruckheimer;
- Photos of such new Toy Story 3 characters as Lots-o’-Huggin’ Bear and Mr. Pricklepants;
- Behind-the-scenes photos from the making of Toy Story 3 and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time;
- And, of course, the special cover – each version of which features a striking, close-up image of one of the three stars of Toy Story 3.
While Disney movies are a major part of the Summer issue of Disney twenty-three, the magazine brings many more discoveries from the entire world of Disney.
A five-page article reveals the history of the enormously popular Fantasmic! nighttime extravaganza at Disneyland in California and Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida, and also provides a glimpse at conceptual art from and exclusive details about next year’s debut of Fantasmic! at Tokyo DisneySea in Japan.
Fans of Disney history will be able to travel in Walt’s footsteps – not to mention his ancestors’ – as Disney’s chief archivist Dave Smith travels around the U.S. and Canada to explore the roots of the Disney family.
Additional features in the Summer issue of Disney twenty-three include:
- An in-depth look at the documentary Waking Sleeping Beauty, about the second “golden age” of Disney animation;
- Journeys through some remarkably “ahhh-mazing” ways to pamper yourself during a visit to Disney’s theme parks and resorts; and
- Introductions to professional Disney photographers, who share some of the extraordinary images they have taken during their careers.

‘Prince of Persia’ Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Featuring Alanis Morissette Available May 25
Walt Disney Records will release the original soundtrack for Walt Disney Pictures’ and Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ PRINCE OF PERSIA: THE SANDS OF TIME on May 25, 2010. The recording features an epic, romantic sweeping original score written by award-winning composer Harry Gregson-Williams and an end credit song performed by multiple Grammy® Award-winner Alanis Morissette (“I Remain”). PRINCE OF PERSIA: THE SANDS OF TIME hits theaters Memorial Day Weekend, 2010.
Canadian-born singer-songwriter Alanis Morissette wrote and performed the soundtrack’s end credit song “I Remain,” which serves as the film’s end title track. Said Morissette of the song: “It’s an honor to write from the voice of an empowered princess about a love that empowers them both to new heights, healing and consciousness. The song wrote itself and this story was the ultimate muse.” “I Remain” was co-written with Mike Elizondo (Dr. Dre, Eminem, Maroon 5, Mary J. Blige, Nelly Furtado), who also produced the track. Elizondo also produced the Alanis Morissette-penned track “Wunderkind,” from “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian” film and soundtrack. Morissette has sold more than 60 million albums worldwide, earned 12 Canadian Juno Awards, 8 Grammy® Awards and also received an additional 14 Grammy® nominations.
Harry Gregson-Williams is one of Hollywood’s most sought after composers, working on a variety of high-profile projects, both animated and live-action. Gregson-Williams composed the music for “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian” and “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” for which he collected Golden Globe and Grammy nominations for his score. He also received a BAFTA Award nomination and won the Ivor Novello Award for Best Score, as well as an Annie Award, for the blockbuster animated feature “Shrek.” Spanning a 14 year relationship, Gregson-Williams has composed for various Jerry Bruckheimer projects including, “The Rock,” “Armageddon,” “Enemy of the State,” “Veronica Guerin” and “Déjà Vu.” His numerous feature film credits have included “Shrek 2,” “Shrek the Third,” the upcoming “Shrek Forever After,” “Gone Baby Gone,” “Man on Fire,” “Domino,” “Spy Game,” “Kingdom of Heaven,” “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” and “The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3,” among others.
For his score, which was recorded at the historic Abbey Road in London, Gregson-Williams utilized a broad sonic spectrum including a 77-piece orchestra, a choir of 32 vocalists as well as a variety of ethnic instruments. “Having the opportunity to create a score for a large scale adventure like PRINCE OF PERSIA: THE SANDS OF TIME is an amazing opportunity,” stated Gregson-Williams. “The film presented a musical canvas of epic proportions, lending itself to a wide range of symphonic possibilities including romantic melodies and heroic themes beautifully brought to life by our orchestra and chorus.”

Toy Fair 2010: LEGO Presents Pixar DUPLO Playsets, Toy Story 3 and Prince of Persia LEGO Sets (SPOILER ALERT)
I was able to briefly penetrate the LEGO fortress (which, despite being bright yellow on the exterior, was constructed of something much more durable than plastic) and get a sneak peek at all of the new Disney branded LEGO and DUPLO sets we can expect to see in 2010.
Solidifying the recent licensing of Disney to LEGO, 2010 marks the first year that LEGO will be introducing Disney-branded DUPLO for the younger set. In this case, we have two series coming out in the first half of the year for Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story and for Disney/Pixar’s CARS. I have to confess I find the DUPLO sets to be absolutely adorable and I wish I could share photos with you but despite being in possession of the box artwork, it’s all preliminary so I’m not allowed to share, but I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.
With LEGO, we have a few more Toy Story sets being released in conjunction with the theatrical release of Toy Story 3. These sets are focused on the film and thus some of the characters and concepts behind the playsets will be spoilers. The same could be said for the Prince of Persia releases, so consider yourself warned.
