Radio Disney Junior, a music block designed for kids age 2-7, will debut Monday, February 14 from 12 pm – 1 pm ET (9 am – 10 am) on Radio Disney, coinciding with the launch of Disney Junior on Disney Channel and Disney.com. The national broadcast and satellite network is the No. 1 radio platform for kids and families. Its new Radio Disney Junior block will feature an expanded roster of music and artists appealing to young kids, plus fun “audio theater” with Disney Junior characters. DJ Hallie is the host of the Radio Disney Junior block, airing weekdays.

Music from The Laurie Berkner Band, Elizabeth Mitchell and Jack Johnson, and popular songs from Disney Junior series including “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse,” “Handy Manny” and “Imagination Movers,” plus music from The Never Land Pirate Band of the upcoming adventure series, “Jake and the Never Land Pirates,” will be part of Radio Disney Junior.

Among the scheduled guests joining DJ Hallie for Radio Disney Junior Take Overs are the Imagination Movers, “Choo Choo Soul” stars Genevieve Goings and DC, and stars from the new “Jake and the Never Land Pirates,” including Captain Hook and Mr. Smee, Sharky and Bones of The Never Land Pirate Band, Ariel Winter (of ABC’s “Modern Family”), who is the voice of Marina the Mermaid, and Madison Pettis (of Disney’s “The Game Plan”), who is the voice of Izzy.

Programming schedule for Radio Disney Junior’s debut month is as follows:

February 14-18 “Jake and the Never Land Pirates” stars Captain Hook, Mr. Smee, Sharky and Bones

Free Radio Disney iPhone App Surpasses One Million Downloads; Releases Major Update

A major update for the Radio Disney App for iPhone and iPod touch, which has exceeded one million installations, is now live on the App Store. The update, using the multitasking functionality of iOS4, allows listeners to stream Radio Disney while using other features and apps on their device. The updated Radio Disney App also enables users to request songs, learn of local Radio Disney events, and send shout outs to Radio Disney and to the network’s on-air personalities.

“Radio Disney’s app has quickly become one of the most frequently downloaded free, Disney-branded, parent-approved apps, by providing radio content that kids love at our consumer’s fingertips,” said Michael Peterson, executive director, Digital Media, Disney/ABC Television Group. Jon Sayer, vice president of Ad Sales, Radio Disney added: “The sponsorship opportunities of the Radio Disney App demonstrate our ability to deliver our advertising partners programs that are relevant to kids, tweens and moms across our Disney media platforms.”

In addition to the current live 24-hour stream, the new Radio Disney App includes:

  • Multitasking Functionality – users can listen to the Radio Disney stream while using the device for other functions such as texting, browsing the internet, emailing, viewing contacts and more.
  • Song Requests – users can interact with Radio Disney by requesting a song.
  • Favorites – users can customize the experience by tagging songs and adding them to a list of favorites.

Free Allstar Weekend Performance Highlights Chicago’s ‘Magnificent Mile Lights’ Festival; Phineas and Ferb Also to Appear

Radio Disney AM 1300 kicks off the holiday season in Chicago with a day of fun for kids and families on Saturday, November 20, at the 19th annual Magnificent Mile Lights Festival presented by Harris. The day of special events will bring fans face to face with some of their favorite stars, including Allstar Weekend and the “Phineas and Ferb” walk-around characters.

Radio Disney on-air personality Ernie D will host a free concert by Hollywood Records recording artists Allstar Weekend at 2:00p.m. on the Harris Stage in Pioneer Court (401 North Michigan Avenue, Chicago, Illinois). Finalists on the first season of Radio Disney’s “N.B.T.,” Allstar Weekend recently released their second album, “Suddenly Yours,” and are set to kick off their second headlining tour on November 4. Their new hit single, “Come Down with Love,” is currently climbing the Radio Disney Top 30 and “Dance Forever,” which is still played regularly on Radio Disney, was on the Radio Disney Top 30 for 15 consecutive weeks.

Before and after the concert, kids and families can visit the Radio Disney booth at Lights Festival Lane in Pioneer Court for music, games and prizes. Starting at 11:45 a.m., the Radio Disney Road Crew will host special “Phineas and Ferb” themed activities, which will include an appearance by the Phineas and Ferb walk-around characters from Disney XD and Disney Channel’s “Phineas and Ferb” (weather permitting).

Following the concert, Allstar Weekend will kick off the tree lighting procession down Michigan Avenue with a special televised performance of “Come Down With Love.” Ernie D and “Phineas and Ferb” characters will greet local fans from the Radio Disney float. The lighting procession begins at 5:30 p.m. and features more than 30 spectacular floats, marching bands and beloved Disney characters, with Mickey and Minnie Mouse illuminating more than one million lights on 200 trees along The Magnificent Mile.

Sean Cocchia and David Cobb Promoted at Disney Channels Worldwide

Disney Channels Worldwide has promoted two key executives into new roles — Sean Cocchia has been named Senior Vice President and General Manager, Radio Disney, and David Cobb has been named Vice President, Business Planning and Strategy, Disney Channels Worldwide. The announcement was made today by Carolina Lightcap, President, Disney Channels Worldwide, to whom they each will report. David Cobb will also have a reporting line into Jewell Engstrom, Chief Financial Officer, Disney ABC Networks Group.

At Radio Disney, Cocchia succeeds Michael Riley, who was recently named President, ABC Family. Cobb succeeds Cocchia in the Business Planning and Strategy role.

In making the announcement, Lightcap said, “These promotions come at a time of dynamic expansion and innovation for our portfolio, and especially as Radio Disney rises to meet the needs of its growing audience of kids, tweens and families.” She continued, “They also reflect Disney’s commitment to identifying and cultivating leaders within the organization and to consistently providing exciting and challenging career opportunities for our team. Sean brings strategic acumen, extensive knowledge of our business and leadership skills to his new role, and David is a proven strategic thinker whose intrinsic business planning expertise will serve us well as we continue to grow domestically and internationally.”

Cocchia has been an executive with Disney since 1998 and was most recently Senior Vice President, Business Planning and Development, Disney Channels Worldwide. His new responsibilities will include strategic management of the national Radio Disney network which is available on over 35 terrestrial radio stations and via RadioDisney.com, Sirius and XM satellite radio, iTunes Radio Tuner, mobile phones and on the Radio Disney iPhone App. Radio Disney’s programming, distribution and marketing departments will report to him. Cocchia’s role continues to include guiding strategic digital media extensions to optimize assets in the portfolio of Disney Channels Worldwide across digital platforms, working closely with the team led by Albert Cheng, Executive Vice President, Digital Media, Disney/ABC Television Group.

In 2008, Cocchia was named Senior Vice President, Business Planning and Development, Disney Channels Worldwide. He was previously Vice President, Business Development (2005-08) and Executive Director, Business Management (2004-05) for Disney Channel U.S. Cocchia joined Disney in July 1998 as a Senior Analyst in its Strategic Planning area. He previously served as an investment banking analyst with Credit Suisse First Boston’s Media and Telecommunications Group. Cocchia graduated magna cum laude from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance.

Cobb has been with Disney since 1996, and for the past year has been Director, Business Planning and Development, Disney Channels Worldwide. He will be responsible for strategic oversight and business planning, including growth strategies for Disney Channels Worldwide. Cobb has a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Architecture from University of Tennessee, Knoxville and a Bachelor of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Tennessee Technological University.

‘A Year Without Rain’ by Selena Gomez & The Scene to Premiere on Disney Channel and Radio Disney Sept. 3

Disney Channel will present the world premiere of Selena Gomez & The Scene’s music video, “A Year Without Rain,” from their upcoming album of the same title, on FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 3 (10:15 p.m., ET/PT), following the premiere of “Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam” and a preview of the new animated comedy series “Fish Hooks.” The single will also debut on Radio Disney and will be available as a digital single and digital video that same day.

The song was written by Toby Gad (“Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam”) and Linda Robbins, and the music video was directed by Chris Dooley, who directed Gomez’s other music videos “Falling Down” and “Naturally,” as well as videos for Scissor Sisters, Marié Digby and David Bowie.

The music video was shot on location in Lucerne Valley, California.

“A Year Without Rain” releases worldwide Tuesday, September 21 on Hollywood Records. The song “Round & Round” from the album is the No. 1 song on Radio Disney. Gomez’s first album, “Kiss & Tell,” debuted in the Billboard Top 10 and is now Gold certified. Its big hit, “Naturally,” is Platinum certified.

Radio Disney and Disney Channel Present ‘Next Best Thing’ Season 3 in September

Radio Disney, which Billboard magazine ranked twice among the Top 25 on its Maximum Exposure list of ways to get music noticed, will kick off its third season of “N.B.T.” (Next Big Thing), beginning WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 15. “N.B.T.,” a daily multiplatform feature that launched the career of Hollywood Records recording artists Allstar Weekend, puts the spotlight on young recording artists and provides them with national broadcast and online exposure. Over the course of 10 weeks, Radio Disney and Disney Channel audiences will be invited to look, listen and vote for their favorite artist at RadioDisney.com or by texting* “NBT” to DISNEY (347639) — message & data rates may apply, kids under 18 must get parent’s permission first. The highest ranked “N.B.T.” artist will have the opportunity to have their single released by Disney Music Group and open for Allstar Weekend at a special holiday performance.

Michael Riley, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Radio Disney, said, “‘N.B.T.’ exemplifies Radio Disney’s multiplatform programming strategy, which extends the listening experience and adds engagement opportunities for kids and families.”

The showcase includes interviews and in-studio performances with a new “N.B.T.” artist every two weeks. During each showcase period on Radio Disney, each artist will have their single on the playlist, and join on-air personalities Ernie D and Jake Whetter in studio.  Simultaneously, Disney Channel will present a preview of each artist and a sampling of their musical talent in interstitials hosted by Jake. Each artist will also have two full songs, exclusive videos, photos and bios on RadioDisney.com. Videos will also be featured on Disney.com, the N.B.T. mobile website (http://radiodisney.mobi/nbt), and Radio Disney’s YouTube Channel.

“The continued success and ever-growing popularity of Allstar Weekend demonstrates the caliber of talent that ‘N.B.T.’ attracts,” said Kelly Edwards, Executive Director of Music and Programming, Radio Disney. She added, “This year’s artists represent Radio Disney’s broad playlist with more musical diversity than ever before.”

The artists, age 12-17, include:

  • AMBER LILY (September 15-September 28) — A 13-year-old pop and R&B singer and songwriter from San Francisco, California who currently resides in Los Angeles, California
  • KICKING DAISIES (September 29-October 12) — A four-member rock band–Duran Visek (guitar, vocals, age 15), Carly Kalafus (bass, age 14), Ben Spremulli (guitar, age 14), and Caitlin Kalafus (drums, age 17) — from Milford, Connecticut
  • SACHA EDWARDS (October 13-October 26) — A 14-year-old pop and rock singer and songwriter from Los Angeles, California
  • MATTHEW JOHNSON (October 27-November 9) — A 13-year-old pop singer and songwriter from Dallas, Texas
  • COCO JONES (November 10-November 23) — A 12-year-old pop singer and rapper from Columbia, South Carolina who currently resides in Nashville, Tennessee

Throughout the 10-week period, fans will have a chance to vote for the “N.B.T.” featured artist each day followed by a week of open voting starting Wednesday, November 24. The “N.B.T.” winner will be announced on-air by Ernie D on Friday, December 3.

Daphne Blunt to Star in New Radio Disney Serial, ‘My Dream’

Daphne BluntBeginning July 5, Radio Disney will debut a new daily serial titled My Dream which will premiere each weekday on the radio network at 9:25 am ET and repeat four times a day as well as being available online at Disney.com along with a video component.

The 90-second segment radio drama stars actress and singer Daphne Blunt (Young and the Restless) as Kayla, a 13 year old trying to make it in the music business while dealing with the routine stresses of her normal daily life.

Radio Disney Launches New Daily Feature ‘N.B.T.: Making it Big’ Featuring Allstar Weekend

Radio Disney will launch a new multi-platform daily programming feature, ”N.B.T.: Making It Big,” chronicling the rise of Allstar Weekend, the inaugural year “N.B.T.” (“Next Big Thing”) finalists now signed to Hollywood Records. Premiering on WEDNESDAY, MARCH 17, “N.B.T.: Making It Big” provides audiences on-air, online and via mobile devices an inside look at what it takes to make it big in the music industry. “N.B.T.: Making It Big” will take Radio Disney and Disney Channel audiences behind the scenes of Allstar Weekend’s journey leading up to the June 22 release of their debut album on Hollywood Records. Featuring details on how they first formed their band and became “N.B.T.” artists to what they love most about recording sessions, photo shoots, and making music videos, “N.B.T.: Making It Big” will give audiences a first-hand perspective into the lives of these rising stars.
