WDW Refurb Update: Primeval Whirl Re-opening Pushed Back for Third Time
Karma is taking its toll on Primeval Whirl in Disney’s Animal Kingdom at the Walt Disney World Resort. The attraction, which has been plagued with problems during its refurbishment, including causing injuries and even death to cast members, closed on January 17, 2011 and was initially scheduled to re-open on April 6 which was later extended to April 17, then to June 2 and now has been pushed back much further with a new scheduled re-opening date of September 15, 2011.

Disney Store Times Square to Close Temporarily in May for Renovations
Just six months after its triumphant return to Manhattan, the two-floor Disney Store Times Square located at 1540 Broadway, the largest in North America, will be fully closing its doors beginning on May 16, as confirmed by @DisneyStore.
While the second floor has followed the store’s new ‘Imagination Park’ concept model, the lower floor was more loosely themed and focused primarily on New York City exclusive items along with Disney Theatrical, Vinylmation, Disney Couture and Bloc28, along with some standard Disney Store merchandise. Within the past couple of weeks, these items have been moved to the upper floor while the first floor undergoes a complete renovation.
Up until May 16, the upper floor has and will remain open for guests to visit and experience the retail location, but the shop will have to close for a period of 10 days beginning on May 16, with a grand re-opening scheduled for May 27. The reason for this complete closure, as explained to us by a store manager, is that no guests can be allowed inside the premesis during the painting process. The upper floor is not expected to be altered in any way.
Knowledge of the closure and changes by store cast members appeared to be limited at best, but those who appear to be aware of the changes are expecting a spectacular overhaul of the lower floor when it re-opens.

WDW Refurb Update: ‘Tiki Room’ Granted Re-Opening Date; ‘Liberty Belle,’ ‘Primeval Whirl’ Closure Extended
August 16, 2011 is a day that will live in infamy for that is the day the Walt Disney World currently has slated for the re-opening of the ‘Enchanted Tiki Room,’ following a fire that caused some significant damage to some of the animatronics. Closed since January, sources have confirmed to us that the rumored return to the original Tropical Serenade will indeed happen and Iago and Zazu will be forced to find another line of work. Perhaps as a tongue-in-cheek nod to the change, Disney Pin Trading released the retro pin displayed here last month, in honor of Walt Disney World’s 40th anniversary.
At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, the closure of the troubled ‘Primeval Whirl’ has been extended once more, this time until June 1, with a re-opening date of June 2. This additional extension may be related to the recent tragedy in which a worked was killed. The attraction was scheduled to re-open on April 17 prior to this change.
Lastly, the Liberty Belle at Magic Kingdom’s Liberty Square’s dates have changed both to start earlier and end later. The new scheduled dates for refurbishment are May 2 through May 25.

Magic Kingdom’s Liberty Belle to Receive Another Refurb — Are 999 Happy Haunts to Blame?
Fresh off a recent small refurbishment, the Liberty Bell Riverboat in Magic Kingdom’s Liberty Square is scheduled to undergo yet another (and longer) refurbishment beginning May 5.
Although there could be very good reasons for the temporary closure pertaining to the attraction itself, it’s no secret that the Haunted Mansion queue has been walled off to curious eyes waiting to enter the retirement home for ghosts with room for a thousand. For those who see the construction walls as merely an obstacle, the Liberty Belle has become a vehicle of choice for peering in from the other side to check in on how things are moving along.
Since it won’t be nearly as practical to sparsely throw up trees and scrims as the park has done to lightly discourage peeping toms from checking in on the New Fantasyland expansion, it just may be possible that the closure is in anticipation of putting on the final touches on the new supposed next-gen queue of the theme park classic, preparing for its public debut which coincidentally may be when the Liberty Belle is scheduled to re-open on May 20 — which perhaps not so coincidentally is the same day when Star Tours II re-opens at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Mickey’s Toontown Fair at Magic Kingdom to Close Permanently in February
The Walt Disney World Resort has advised its cast members today that Mickey’s Toontown Fair will see its last date of operation on February 11, 2011. Beginning February 12, 2011, that area of the Magic Kingdom will be unavailable to guests as the park continues its work on the Fantasyland Expansion (FLE) project.
With respect to the attractions in Toontown Fair that will be removed as a result of this change:
- Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and the Disney Princess will eventually relocate to a new meet & greet area inside Exposition Hall. Should the meet & greet not be ready in time, the characters will remain available to meet & greet inside the park at locations to be determined later.
- Tinker Bell will temporarily be relocated to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The remaining fairies (Silvermist, Rosetta, Fawn, Terence and Vidia) will return to Epcot for meet & greets in the spring, presumably with the 2011 Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival.
- The Walt Disney World Railroad will be unaffected for the most part, however the Toontown station will be closed.
Thank you to a Stitch Kingdom reader for the tip. This information has been confirmed by the Walt Disney World Resort.

We have a late entry of the American Heritage Gallery at Epcot’s American Adventure in the World Showcase. The exhibit is currently closed beginning today and will re-open on November 17.
Moving into the future, but not too distantly, we have scheduled quiet pool closures at both the Polynesian Resort (closing January 10, opening February 19) and Coronado Springs Resort (Cabanas pool closing January 3, opening January 29). In both cases, the respective main feature pool will remain open as will any other quiet pools at the resort.

WDW Refurb Update: ‘Playhouse Disney – Live On Stage!’ Dark in Late January thru Early March
The official Walt Disney World Resort website began reporting yesterday that the ‘Playhouse Disney – Live On Stage!’ show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be closing for refurbishment on January 30 and scheduled to re-open on March 6. Although there is speculation that the refurbishment may be to change the limited references to those of ‘Disney Junior’ (which is likely), it’s also almost the exact same time period the attraction closed last time to debut as its current incarnation in 2008 which means that there could be some show changes in the works as well. If that were to be happening, it’s most likely to remove the canceled ‘My Friends Tigger and Pooh’ and inject some more current and relevant content such as ‘Special Agent Oso’ (who would actually fit in quite perfectly with the current show) or even ‘Timmy Time’ if licensing allows. On a side note, the last change ‘replaced’ human Jamie with Casey and as of yet, no public casting notices have been published to that effect (still plenty of ambiguous names to go!).
