The Walt Disney World Resort has advised its cast members today that Mickey’s Toontown Fair will see its last date of operation on February 11, 2011. Beginning February 12, 2011, that area of the Magic Kingdom will be unavailable to guests as the park continues its work on the Fantasyland Expansion (FLE) project.
We have a late entry of the American Heritage Gallery at Epcot’s American Adventure in the World Showcase. The exhibit is currently closed beginning today and will re-open on November 17.
Moving into the future, but not too distantly, we have scheduled quiet pool closures at both the Polynesian Resort (closing January 10, opening February 19) and Coronado Springs Resort (Cabanas pool closing January 3, opening January 29). In both cases, the respective main feature pool will remain open as will any other quiet pools at the resort.
It’s shaping up to be one of those days. Although not confirmed as of yet through our official sources, WDWMagic.com and Walt Disney World Cast Member Paul Chadkin are reporting additional refurbishments added to the operations schedule for Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Hollywood Studios in January.
The Liberty Belle / Liberty Square Riverboat located in the Liberty Square area of Magic Kingdom is scheduled to close on January 29, 2011 and re-open on February 5.
At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, both the Studio Backlot Tour and the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure playground are set to close on January 3 and re-open on January 30.
The official Walt Disney World Resort website began reporting yesterday that the ‘Playhouse Disney – Live On Stage!’ show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be closing for refurbishment on January 30 and scheduled to re-open on March 6. Although there is speculation that the refurbishment may be to change the limited references to those of ‘Disney Junior’ (which is likely), it’s also almost the exact same time period the attraction closed last time to debut as its current incarnation in 2008 which means that there could be some show changes in the works as well. If that were to be happening, it’s most likely to remove the canceled ‘My Friends Tigger and Pooh’ and inject some more current and relevant content such as ‘Special Agent Oso’ (who would actually fit in quite perfectly with the current show) or even ‘Timmy Time’ if licensing allows. On a side note, the last change ‘replaced’ human Jamie with Casey and as of yet, no public casting notices have been published to that effect (still plenty of ambiguous names to go!).
We have four newly listed refurbishments at the Walt Disney World Resort to share with you.
First up is Kouzzina by Cat Cora at Disney’s Boardwalk Inn. The restaurant will be closed for a couple of weeks beginning on November 29 and re-opening on December 15.
Beginning December 3, the Paddock leisure pool at Disney’s Saratoga Springs DVC Resort will close for an extended refurbishment and is currently scheduled to re-open on June 30, 2011.
With what should come as little to no surprise, the official Walt Disney World website has now posted a closure for Splash Mountain in January for the Magic Kingdom’s attraction annual refurbishment. Currently the site has the attraction as closing on January 3 and re-opening on February 1, 2011, but last-day-of-the-month dates are always suspect and suggest that the closure may continue on into the next month, although this is not the publicly available information at this time. Should we learn of the closure extending into February, we will update the article and note the changes via our official Twitter and Facebook pages.
The pool and kid slide at Stormalong Bay at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club will be closed for refurbishment from January 3, 2011 through February 2, 2011 while the pool side at the Boardwalk Inn and Villas will be closed for refurbishment from February 7, 2011 through March 16, 2011.
During this time, guests may continue to make full use of the remainder of the pool and quiet pools and may opt to use the pool at the alternating resort if the use of a slide is desired. Traditionally speaking, a shuttle is offered between the resorts when the pools undergo refurbishments.
The official Walt Disney World website has listed Astro Orbiter at the Magic Kingdom as closing on December 5 and re-opening on December 10.

When The Many Adventures Winnie-the-Pooh closes in Fantasyland at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom in October as we previously announced, it will now be joined by Pooh’s Thotful Shop which will also close on October 25, but will re-open on November 8, full a week earlier than the attraction.
In addition, Mad Tea Party in Fantasyland will close on September 26 and is scheduled to re-open on November 11.
