It’s hard to imagine given what we’ve already seen from the new Walt Disney Studios and Jerry Bruckheimer joint The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, loosely based on the Fantasia segment of the same name that there could be even more F/X to ogle.

Truth is though, most of the F/X shots you’ll find in the new trailer have been seen in previously released clips, but the trailer now pays special attention to them, offering us more of the amazing sights the film has to offer. Of special note is the Wall Street Bull that temporarily takes over the Bowling Green area of Manhattan, the initial insect-ized appearance of Maxim Horvath (Alfred Molina) and — of course — the homage to the film’s inspiration, the quintessential mop scene that results when the apprentice Dave (Jay Baruchel) defies the wizard Balthazar’s (Nicolas Cage) strict rule to never use magic as a shortcut.

‘Sorcerer’s Apprentice’ Character Poster #3: Veronica (The Sorceress)

Sorcerer's Apprentice: VeronicaThe character poster parade for The Sorcerer’s Apprentice from Walt Disney Studios and Jerry Bruckheimer marches on this week, today presenting magical love interest Veronica (Monica Belluci) who eventually proves to be twice the woman she appears to be.

Veronica is a sorceress who has had the great fortune of being loved by Balthazar Blake—and the misfortune of being loved by Maxim Horvath.  “Balthazar and Veronica are willing to do everything for their love,” says Bellucci, “and at the same time they’re two fighters.  Horvath, who, like them, was a disciple of Merlin, also falls in love with Veronica.  She rejects him for Balthazar, and because of that he betrays them by aligning himself with Morgana.  It’s a beautiful and powerful story about love, jealousy and vengeance.”

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice opens nationwide on July 14. For more of our coverage of the film, click here.

‘Sorcerer’s Apprentice’ Character Poster #2: Maxim Horvath

Sorcerer's Apprentice: HorvathContinuing the series of character posters from the upcoming The Sorcerer’s Apprentice from Walt Disney Studios and Jerry Bruckheimer is #2, titled ‘The Villain.’

Maxim Horvath (Alfred Molina) was, along with Balthazar Blake and Veronica, a disciple of Merlin and a force of good more than a thousand years ago.  But their mutual love for Veronica split the colleagues apart and Horvath has instead become an ally of the wicked Morgana, who murdered Merlin and is seeking to conquer the world with her minions.  He and Balthazar have battled through the ages, finally bringing their conflict to modern-day New York City.

“In The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, Horvath’s mission is world domination,” says Molina.  “Balthazar and Horvath have a rivalry that’s gone on for millennia.  Balthazar is maintaining the Merlinean standard of magic as a power that’s used for the benefit of mankind.  Horvath is the leader of the Morganians, who take the very different view that magic should be used to subjugate humans.  That’s the struggle between good as personified by Nic Cage’s character, and evil as personified by mine.  Horvath is a rather smart, debonair, Edwardian villain in the classic tradition of suave bad guys, well dressed and charming, but deadly.”

SORC_BSH_WIZARD LR.jpgEach day this week, @DisneyMoviesUK will be releasing a new poster featuring a character from the upcoming Walt Disney Studios and Jerry Bruckheimer release The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.

As an interesting selection, the first poster features Sun Lok (Gregory Woo) who’s not a particularly strong character in the film but enjoys showing off his strengths during what precious screen time he does have as he wreaks havoc on New York City’s Chinatown when terrorizing the film’s heroes Balthazar (Nicolas Cage) and Dave (Jay Baruchel).

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice will be released in theaters in North America on July 14.
