Walt Disney Studios has provided us with several released photo from behind the scenes of its upcoming feature, Saving Mr. Banks, which have been added to the beginning of our gallery of backstage photos from the film below. The new images feature production as it took place at the Disneyland Resort as well as the Walt Disney Studios, along with a couple of composer Thomas Newman at work on the film’s score.
Walt Disney Studios has released this new featurette for Saving Mr. Banks, focusing on the iconic music of Mary Poppins. It featuring Robert Sherman (half of the famous Sherman Brothers songwriting team responsible for the soundtrack as well as the film’s common threads) as well as the cast of Saving Mr. Banks as they discuss (and in some cases, reminisce) about the music and Walt Disney’s influence. Some additional footage as well as behind-the-scenes footage is also shared along the way.

In honor of Saving Mr. Banks which shares the previously untold story of what it took for Walt Disney to bring Mary Poppins to the movies, Walt Disney Studios has released several behind-the-scenes photos, concept art, sketches by screenwriter Don DaGradi (as seen below) and more. Pictured left is a rarely seen photo of Richard and Robert Sherman singing along with Julie Andrews, Dick Van Dyke and Irwin Kostal, while pictured below is a sketch by DaGradi featuring P.L. Travers during ‘the trial — I mean conference.’
Walt Disney Studios today announced that for one week only, guests will have the opportunity to see Disney’s upcoming Saving Mr. Banks, starring Emma Thompson and Tom Hanks, in a state-of-the-art movie theater on the Walt Disney Studios lot in Burbank, California, and then walk in Walt Disney’s footsteps on a special tour of the famous lot. This limited engagement features one show daily at 7 pm from December 13th through December 19th.
Walt Disney Studios has provided us with seventeen newly released hi-res stills from its upcoming feature, Saving Mr. Banks, which have been added to the beginning of our gallery of images from the film below. In addition to close-ups of several of the main characters such as Walt Disney (Tom Hanks), P.L. Travers (Emma Thompson), Don DaGradi (Bradley Whitford), Richard and Robert Sherman (Jason Schwartzman and B.J. Novak) and Ralph (Paul Giamatti) — the only fictional character in the film — we also get some good looks at Travers’ life as a child as portrayed by Annie Buckley with parents Margaret and Travers Goff (Ruth Wilson and Colin Farrell) and Aunt Ellie (Rachel Griffiths). In addition, we also have a couple of looks at costume designs for Walt Disney and P.L. Travers by Daniel Orlandi.
Thanks to a pre-order listing on iTunes, we now have the complete track list for the double-album original motion picture soundtrack to Disney’s Saving Mr. Banks as composed by Thomas Newman (also available via Amazon). The soundtrack is scheduled to be released on December 10, 2013, just ahead of the film’s limited release on December 13, followed by its wide release on December 20, 2013.
To celebrate the release of Saving Mr. Banks and the upcoming 50th anniversary of Mary Poppins, D23, Disney’s official fan club, has dedicated the entire winter 2013 issue of its members’ quarterly magazine, Disney twenty-three, to the beloved nanny. Available exclusively to D23 Gold Members, the issue includes exclusive interviews with Saving Mr. Banks stars Tom Hanks, Emma Thompson and Bradley Whitford, as well as director John Lee Hancock. It takes readers behind the scenes of the making of this spectacular new film, which opens in limited release on December 13 and looks at the creation of Disney’s Mary Poppins and the sometimes combative but respectful relationship between the character’s creator, P.L. Travers (Thompson), and Walt Disney (Hanks).
With Awards season upon us, Walt Disney Studios is preparing to launch its annual ‘For Your Consideration’ campaign which will promote three of its films along with two animated shorts for consideration of nominations across several categories, which have been detailed below. Being promoted are Saving Mr. Banks, Frozen and Disney/Pixar’s Monsters University along with animated shorts The Blue Umbrella and Get A Horse
No particular surprises other than Disney is pushing for Tom Hanks as Walt Disney in Saving Mr. Banks as a supporting role.
Simon & Schuster will be re-issuing its biography of Mary Poppins, She Wrote by Valerie Lawson on December 3, 2013, in an effort to capitalize on Disney’s biopic Saving Mr. Banks. The book will be released in both paperback and Kindle formats.
