After a fairly successful run with The Little Mermaid, Disney will continue bringing its ‘Second Screen Live’ experience to select theaters nationwide. Beginning October 18, Disney will present Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas just in time for Halloween. The Nightmare Before Christmas was actually the first film to receive the special treatment, which has gone through focus testing several times within the past year.
Last night, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment invited us to partake in a sneak peek at their latest in-theater offering, The Little Mermaid edition of their ‘Second Screen Live Experience.’ Similar to the popular ‘Second Screen’ app series which allows viewers at home to sync their iPad along with some of their favorite Disney films to experience it in a whole new way, Second Screen Live encourages audience interaction through the use of games, ‘crab-e-oke’ sing-alongs and more.
Immediate reactions were mixed at best when we first reported from the D23 Expo earlier this year that Disney will be taking its ‘Second Screen Live’ experience to theaters with The Little Mermaid beginning September 20, 2013.
Now Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has released a trailer promoting the event, which is the first time it has gone nationally after some prior localized trials with Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas. The ‘Second Screen Live’ experience encourages movie-goers to download a special app for their Apple iPad and bring it to the theater to engage in various activities such as sing-alongs, trivia, games and more.
Disney D23, the official Disney fan club has announced it will be letting its members be amongst the first to experience Disney’s new ‘Second Screen Live’ experience at a special screening of Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, NV on April 15, 2013.
Although the event is free to members and their guests, each attendee must bring a personal iPad will be required to partake in the ‘Second Screen Live’ experience. Using the iPad, there will be special challenges, speed trivia, sing-alongs and more for the chance to win prizes and play against other fans in the audience. The required app will be emailed to participants who successfully sign up when tickets become available March 20 at 1 pm PT. As is the custom, guests will also receive a special gift for attending the event.
