‘Disney Underground’ Paints Classic Disney Characters in Whole New Light

Porcelain by Steven DailyI just came across this collection available from Acme Archives titled Disney Underground. The collection allows artists to offer what’s described as an ‘abstract pop surrealism’ effect to classic Disney characters, including the fab five.

Pictured to the left is Porcelain by artist Steven Daily (you decide who it’s meant to be as the artist claims any likenesses are coincidental). The giclee on canvas is limited to 100 pieces, hand-numbered and signed by the artist. It measures 19″ x 24″ and is available unframed for $250 (framing and other options available).

iPhone App Review: Disney’s Magic Mirror

Disney's Magic Mirror for the iPhoneTitle: Disney’s Magic Mirror (link)
Publisher:
Walt Disney
Released:
October 5, 2009
Cost:
$.99
iTouch?:
Yes, limited functionality
Pros: Sort-of cute app for the Snow White-diehard to share with friends
Cons:
More ad than content, not much of either for the price
Review:
This is a Snow White-ized  version of the classic Magic 8-Ball App. Ask it a yes/no question and it does its best to reply. So I simply asked it whether or not people should buy it and this was its actual response:

alone in the dark
the world is still
despite my best efforts
I do not know its will

Walt Disney World’s Extreme Makeover: Character Edition

Mr. Smee, we thought we knew you. There was no doubt that once the Pirates League moved into town and started offering pirate makeovers that major changes would be afoot. Consider the following photo that compares Mr. Smee’s old look to his new look. Seams a bit different, don’t it? And who knew Mr. Smee lacked a belly button? He must have lost it in a battle with Peter Pan. He now also sports a more texture/plasticized set of eyebrows, a completely different mouth and all over has a more cartoony look, particularly with his eyes (and I think he might have had a nose job too). I might be going overboard when I suggest I think he even shrank a bit considering the height of his eyes compared with Hook’s nose (even more dramatic when it appears that Hook is even leaning forward in the old look photo while he’s standing upright in the new look photo).
