On June 24, 2014, Walt Disney Records will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Walt Disney Animation Studios animated classic, The Lion King, with the release of a two-disc set, Stitch Kingdom has learned. Although it appears to have a couple of errors, a listing for the Legacy Collection edition has recently appeared on Amazon for pre-order.
Debuting in theaters on June 15, 1994, The Lion King remains one of the studios’ top grossing films to this day and has spawned Broadway, international and touring staged productions worthy of its success.
As a follow-up to the successful release of the ‘DuckTales: Remastered‘ video game for most consoles, Capcom and Walt Disney Records will be releasing a full digital download soundtrack on April 29, 2014, according to a new listing on Amazon.
Clocking in at a whopping 47 tracks and a time of nearly 90 minutes in length, the extensive game soundtrack includes both original and 8-bit versions of its music, composed by Jake Kaufman.

Walt Disney Records has confirmed to us that they are planning to re-release the original The Muppet Movie soundtrack on vinyl this April 19, 2014 for Record Store Day. This will be a vinyl edition of the soundtrack re-released on CD in 2013, featuring all new liner notes by songwriter Paul Williams. That re-release itself was tied to the 35th anniversary of the film.
For Record Store Day, Disney had previously released identity-disc-inspired variants of Daft Punk’s TRON Legacy.
In order to commemorate the wild success of the original motion picture soundtrack to Disney’s Frozen, Walt Disney Studios has announced a collector’s deluxe edition on a 3-disc vinyl set. The set consists of three 12-inch color vinyl LPs packaged in a stunning double-gatefold, foil, embossed jacket with a full-color booklet containing the lyrics and gallery quality images from the film. Each set is hand-numbered and will be one of just 3000 copies being produced. It is currently available for pre-order with an expected delivery date in April 2014.
Tony Award®-winning singer, songwriter and actress Idina Menzel will, for the first time, perform the Oscar®-nominated song ‘Let it Go’ for a global television audience at the Oscars®, show producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron announced today. The Oscars, hosted by Ellen DeGeneres, will air on Sunday, March 2, live on ABC.
‘Let it Go,’ written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez for Frozen, is nominated for Original Song. The three other nominated songs are ‘Happy’ from Despicable Me 2, ‘Ordinary Love’ from Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom and ‘The Moon Song’ from Her.
On January 14, 2014, the original motion picture soundtrack to Disney’s Frozen, as well as the single ‘Let It Go,’ were recognized by the RIAA as being certified gold (selling more than 500,000 physical copies). To commemorate the event as well as the success of the film and the album in general, Disney held a private showcase event last night the Vibrato Grill Jazz Club in Los Angeles.
In honor of the release of the Dreams trailer featuring ‘Once Upon A Dream’ by Lana Del Rey, Walt Disney Studios has provided us with two new high-res stills from Maleficent, in theaters May 30, 2014. The new stills have been added to the beginning of our gallery embedded below. The single, which is currently free exclusively through Google Play, will be formally released on February 4 and has subsequently returned to Amazon, though a preview has yet to be posted. The full original motion picture soundtrack is slated for a May 27, 2014 release.
Earlier this evening, during the airing of the 56th Annual Grammy Awards on the CBS Network, Walt Disney Studios provided an exclusive sneak peek at its upcoming film, Maleficent (May 30, 2014). Featured in the ad for the film was a cover of the 1959 Sleeping Beauty classic, ‘Once Upon A Dream’ as performed by Lana Del Rey, which will play over the closing credits for the film. Del Rey was also nominated in two categories for the coveted Grammy: Best Pop Vocal (Paradise), Best Song Written for Visual Media (‘Young and Beautiful’ for The Great Gatsby). Del Rey’s ‘Summertime Sadness’ was also nominated for Best Re-mixed Recording, Non-classical for its mix by Cedric Gervais. You can check out the teaser trailer embedded below.
According to a new listing on Amazon, Disney will release a cover of the Sleeping Beauty classic, ‘Once Upon A Dream’ as performed by Lana Del Rey for the original motion picture soundtrack of its upcoming film, Maleficent, starring Angelina Jolie. The single will release on January 26. The news comes shortly after Walt Disney Studios teased the news that they will air a special sneak peek at the film during the Grammy Awards on CBS this Sunday. Presumably the spot will feature the new track.
