One of the hotter properties at the 111th Annual International Toy Fair in New York is Disney XD’s and Lucasfilm’s new Star Wars series, ‘Star Wars Rebels.’ Although Lucasfilm has slowly been offering up character reveals and tidbits surrounding the new show, details have been slowly leaking through upcoming products including this 16-month 2015 calendar from Trends International.
Fans have been clamoring for ‘Gravity Falls’ merchandise since the show began in 2012 and now that it’s proven itself with a new series on the way, along with the ‘Mabel’s Guide’ short-form series and a line of series-inspired books, merchandising will soon be hitting the shelf.
At the 111th Annual International Toy Fair currently being held in New York, we were able to meet with Jazwares who is getting ready to launch an entire line of ‘Gravity Falls’ toys beginning in fall of 2014. While no photos were allowed of the products we saw (and not all the information was readily available), we did learn a few details which you’ll find below.
In ‘Star Wars Rebels, fans will see the rise of the Rebellion through Ezra: a 14-year-old con artist who learns to fight for a greater good. The seemingly-reluctant hero was revealed earlier in a video filled with character concept art, early animation, and creator interviews, which you will find embedded below.
Growing up on his own in the age of the Empire, Ezra has had to rely on his wit and cunning to get by. As voice actor Taylor Gray explains, ‘He’s very street-smart, he’s a pickpocket, he’s a little thief. But he’s doing it all because he needs to survive.’ Executive producer Dave Filoni adds that Ezra is not a bad kid. Although he may enjoy stealing from the Empire, his behavior has been influenced by the world around him — a world that is under Imperial control.
Netflix has announced an exclusive streaming deal for the sixth and final season of the animated series ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars.’ The final season, dubbed ‘The Lost Missions’ consists of thirteen episodes and will be available starting March 7, 2014 in both the United States and Canada.
In addition to the new episodes, Netflix will also exclusively offer the entire series for streaming in addition to the feature film and several ‘director’s cut’ versions of episodes, previously unaired on television. This deal also represents the first time any Star Wars content has been made available to Netflix members via their streaming service.
Season two of Disney Junior’s hit animated series ‘Sofia the First,’ is set to debuts on Friday, March 7 at 9:30 am ET/PT on Disney Channel. For the second season, the series has rounded up some amazing talent to lend their voices to characters appearing throughout the season. Among the guest stars are: Alyson Hannigan (‘How I Met Your Mother’) as a young faun who always felt she wasn’t special enough; Ginnifer Goodwin (‘Once Upon A Time’) as the castle’s kitchen maid who aspires to be an inventor; Melissa Rauch (‘The Big Bang Theory’) as Ruby’s fairy godmother; Anna Camp and John Michael Higgins (both of Pitch Perfect) as a charmingly sinister princess and a tall fire-breathing dragon; Isla Fisher (The Great Gatsby) and Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings) as two adventurous young sprites; Nick Offerman (‘Parks and Recreation’) as a well-connected fox who reigns over Enchancia’s woodland creatures; Robert Morse (‘Mad Men’) as an elderly retired sorcerer; Christian Borle (‘Smash’) as an ambitious, young castle steward out to take Baileywick’s job; Oliver Platt (‘The West Wing’) as a sickly old dragon; Tracey Ullman (‘The Tracey Ullman Show’) as a happily wicked witch; and Phylicia Rashad (‘The Cosby Show’) as a cranky ice witch who eventually allows her heart to be melted by the power of music.
‘Ella the Elephant,’ a new animated preschool series about an adventurous elephant and her magic hat, will make its debut Monday, February 17 on Disney Channel (7:00 am ET/PT) and Disney Junior (1:00 pm ET/PT). Thereafter, the series will air weekdays on Disney Channel and Disney Junior as well as weekends on Disney Junior. The series is produced by DHX Media (‘Caillou,’ ‘Teletubbies,’ ‘Yo Gabba Gabba!’), a leading international producer and distributor of globally recognized children’s entertainment, in association with Canada’s TVO Kids and FremantleMedia Kids & Family Entertainment.
Disney Channel has announced that the week of February 3, it will be launching a new short-form series based on its popular ‘Gravity Falls’ cartoon, titled ‘Mabel’s Guide to Life.’ A new episode is set to premiere each night, February 3 – 7, at 7:55 pm ET/PT. Paul Lee, president, ABC Entertainment Group, today announced premiere dates for the new drama series ‘Black Box’ on Thursday, April 24 at 10:00 pm ET, along with a new season of ‘Dancing with the Stars’ on Monday, March 17 at 8:00 pm ET and the pick-up of an all-new Disney/Pixar holiday special, ‘Toy Story That Time Forgot’ for the 2014 holiday season, following the recent success of ‘Toy Story OF TERROR!’
The network also announced a special two-night “Bachelor” event featuring everyone’s favorite Bachelor, Juan Pablo Galavis, on Monday, February 24 and Tuesday, February 25 at 8:00 pm ET and new drama ‘Mind Games’ will now premiere on Tuesday, February 25 at 10:00 pm ET, following night two of the ‘Bachelor’ event.
The Walt Disney Company today announced the promotion of Adam Sanderson to senior vice president, corporate communications. The announcement was made by Zenia Mucha, executive vice president and chief communications officer of The Walt Disney Company. In his new role, Mr. Sanderson will oversee D23: The Official Disney Fan Club, Disney Corporate Creative Resources and the Walt Disney Archives.
A 17-year Disney veteran, Sanderson most recently served as senior vice president, franchise management of Disney/ABC Television Group, where he was responsible for launching, building and sustaining franchises for Disney Channel, Disney XD, Disney Junior, Radio Disney, ABC Family, ABC Entertainment Group and ABC Daytime. Previously, he served as senior vice president, brand marketing of Disney Channels Worldwide, helping to build High School Musical, ‘Hannah Montana’ and Disney Junior into franchise successes, managing all synergy initiatives.
ABC Family announced today the pick-up of two half-hour comedy series ‘Mystery Girls,’ starring and executive produced by Tori Spelling and Jennie Garth, and ‘Young & Hungry,’ starring Emily Osment, from executive producer Ashley Tisdale. Production will commence on both series in Los Angeles in early 2014, and both will premiere in 2014.
