‘Terminales’ Begins Production in Boston for ABC Family
Production begins today on the ABC Family drama series pilot “Terminales,” starring Italia Ricci (Unnatural History), Mary Page Keller (‘NYPD Blue’), Vondie Curtis-Hall (‘ER’), Aisha Dee (‘I Hate My Teenage Daughter’), Richard Brancatisano (The Elephant Princess), Abhi Sinha (The Social Network), Haley Ramm (Red State) and guest stars Barry Watson (’7th Heaven’) and Rebecca Schull (‘Wings’).
Produced by Lionsgate and Televisa USA, the one-hour English language pilot follows twenty-something April (Ricci), a smart and quick witted aspiring journalist who is trying to work her way up the ladder at a Boston newspaper by impressing her hard-nosed editor, Lawrence (Curtis-Hall). When not pursuing the latest scoop, April tries to balance her ambitious career with her family – her widowed mom Sara (Keller), grandma Emma (Schull) and rebellious little sister Brenna (Ramm). Just as things start to look up at work, at home and on the romance front with co-worker Dominic (Brancatisano), April gets some devastating news from her estranged uncle George (Watson).
‘Terminales’ is based on Televisa’s successful Mexican drama of the same title and was written by Susanna Fogel and Joni Lefkowitz. Aaron Kaplan (‘GCB,’ ‘The Neighbors,’ ‘Terra Nova’), Fogel and Lefkowitz will serve as executive producers.

‘Terminales,’ ‘Phys Ed’ and ‘Continuing Fred’ Pilots Ordered by ABC Family
ABC Family, the millennial-skewing network, has greenlit three additional pilots to add to its production slate — “Terminales,” a one hour drama adapted from a successful Televisa series, and two new comedies, “Phys Ed” and “Continuing Fred.” The three pilots will go into production this fall along with the previously announced drama pilots “The Fosters” (working title), from executive producer Jennifer Lopez, and “Socio,” from executive producer Gavin Polone.
“ABC Family is synonymous with groundbreaking dramas, and this summer we found additional strength with our comedy lineup. These pilots will further our strength in both areas and add to our existing slate,” said Kate Juergens, Executive Vice President, Original Programming and Development, ABC Family. “In fact, over the past few years, the network launched the #1 new basic cable series in target demos with ‘Pretty Little Liars’ in Summer 2010 and ‘Switched at Birth’ in Summer 2011, and launched the #1 new cable comedy of Summer 2012 with ‘Baby Daddy.’ It’s a trend we are working to continue.”
“Terminales” is a one-hour drama based on a successful Mexican television format by Miguel Angel Fox and follows a young woman’s life after she is diagnosed with a terminal illness. The pilot was written by Susanna Fogel and Joni Lefkowitz. Aaron Kaplan (“GCB,” “The Neighbors,” “Terra Nova”), Fogel and Lefkowitz will serve as executive producers. It will be produced by Lionsgate in association with Televisa.
“Phys Ed” is a half-hour multi-camera comedy series about a high school’s star jock who returns to teach at his former alma mater only to find that, even though he’s changed, nothing else really has. The pilot is written and-executive produced by David H. Steinberg (“American Pie 2″). It is produced by Prodco, Inc.
“Continuing Fred” is a half-hour multi-camera comedy about 20-something Winifred “Fred” Harris, a newly-graduated slacker with an overbearing family who surprisingly finds purpose when she begins to teach at a local elementary school. Written by Bill Daly (“Mike and Molly”), the pilot is produced by Prodco, Inc.
