CONFIRMED: AquaDunk, Marvel Experience Coming to Disney Magic Cruise Ship
At the ‘Monstrous Summer’ media event being held at the Walt Disney World Resort, Disney Cruise Line today confirmed a Stitch Kingdom report that it will be bringing some of the more popular attractions and amenities of its Disney Dream and Fantasy cruise ships to the Disney Magic, the first of its four ships, when it goes into dry dock later in the year.
Included in the exciting additions are an abbreviated form of the industry-first AquaDuck waterslide, called the AquaDunk, which takes guests over the edge of the ship. The AquaDuck will be joined by the Fantasy’s water play area, the AquaLab, as well as a new waterslide dubbed the Twist N’ Spout. Additionally, a new infant/toddler water play area referred to as the Nephew’s Splash Zone.
Children at sea will also be amongst the first to benefit from the Marvel acquisition, as Disney Cruise Line introduces four immersive experiences in its Oceaneer’s Club as on the newer ships. New play areas will be themed to: Marvel’s Avengers Academy (inspired by an upcoming animated television series on Disney XD); Mickey Mouse Club, inspired by the new shorts; and the already familiar Andy’s Room from Pixar’s Toy Story and Pixie Hollow.
Dining changes are also scheduled to take place such as a long anticipated conversion of Parrot Cay to Carioca’s, named after Donald Duck’s Brazilian Saludos Amigos co-star, Jose. The restaurant will be will be Brazilian-influenced, themed to an outdoor marketplace during festival. Animator’s Palette will also be receiving the Animation Magic treatment, as experienced aboard the Disney Fantasy.
The ship’s adults-only district, Beat Street, will be re-themed and now titled After Hours. It will feature O’Gills as found on the Disney Fantasy, along with an undersea-themed club called Fathoms and a piano bar named Keys.

EXCLUSIVE: Disney Magic to Get Marvel Experience, New Adults Only District, AquaDuck and More
Ahead of this week’s ‘Monstrous Summer’ press event being held at the Walt Disney World Resort, we have learned of some exciting upcoming additions to Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Magic cruise liner. The new features include a mix of adapting enhancement from fleet ships Disney Dream and Fantasy’s own pluses as well as brand new experiences, amongst which may be the very first (permanent) foray into the Marvel universe by Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, the business unit that manages Disney Cruise Line. From children to adults, the Disney Magic promises to offer brand new experiences not available anywhere else on the high seas.
The additions begin with the Oceaneer’s Club which currently hosts four immersive experiences from Disney’s Pixie Hollow, Andy’s room from Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story, a submarine experience inspired by Finding Nemo and the scream floor of Monsters Inc aboard the Dream and Fantasy. It appears the latter two will be going away in favor of the Marvel’s Avengers Academy (promised to be based on an upcoming animated Disney XD series of the same name) and a Mickey Mouse Club, inspired by the series of brand new animated shorts now being produced.
The Magic will also receive the AquaDuck waterslide along with some enhancements in way of the AquaLab as found on the Disney Fantasy. In addition, a new water play area for infants and toddlers will be re-themed to the Nephews’ Splash Zone. A brand new water slide called the Twist N’ Spout will also be introduced to the ship, which ‘splashes off in one direction, then loop-de-loops the opposite way.’
Donald Duck’s presence will also be felt elsewhere onboard as the Disney Magic introduces a new restaurant based on his Saludos Amigos co-star, Jose. The restaurant will be called Carioca’s and will be Brazilian-influenced, themed to an outdoor marketplace during festival.
The adults-only district will be re-themed to After Hours and, in addition to featuring O’Gills from the Disney Fantasy, will also feature an undersea themed club called Fathoms and a piano bar named Keys.
CORRECTION: The article was incorrectly initially written from the perspective of the Disney Dream. Changes have been made to reflect that these additions will be completely new to the Disney Magic.

‘Avengers Assemble,’ ‘Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.’ Premiere Dates Set for Disney XD
The popular Marvel Universe programming block on Disney XD will expand with more action, adventure and humor with the debut of two new animated series ‘Marvel’s Avengers Assemble,’ which continues the exciting adventures of Marvel’s most popular super heroes – Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Hulk, Hawkeye, Black Widow and newcomer Falcon, and ‘Marvel’s Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.,’ which features the incredible Hulk, She-Hulk, Red Hulk, A-Bomb and Skaar; it was announced today by David Levine, Vice President and General Manager, Disney XD Worldwide and Jeph Loeb, Executive Vice President & Head of Television, Marvel Entertainment. Kicking off the marvelous summer programming is a special one-hour preview of ‘Marvel’s Avengers Assemble’ on Sunday, May 26, followed by the series premiere on Sunday, July 7. ‘Marvel’s Hulk and the Agents S.M.A.S.H.’ premieres Sunday, August 11 at 11:00 am ET/PT on Marvel Universe on Disney XD.
The record-breaking blockbuster film Marvel’s The Avengers gave worldwide prominence to the most popular super hero team — Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, Thor, Hawkeye and Black Widow. ‘Marvel’s Avengers Assemble’ reunites the team, along with newcomer Falcon, marking the first time in animation history this distinct team of heroes will join forces. Led by Iron Man, the heroes train and live together in their new headquarters in Avengers Tower. The planet’s most dangerous villains don’t stand a chance when the Avengers assemble – whether they are stopping Dr. Doom from conquering Asgard, Attuma driving the Atlantean Army into New York City or Dracula unleashing vampire hordes, the Avengers must work together to succeed.
‘Marvel’s Avengers Assemble’ stars Adrian Pasdar as Iron Man, Fred Tatasciore reprising his role as Hulk, Roger Craig Smith as Captain America, Travis Willingham as Thor, Troy Baker as Hawkeye, Laura Bailey as Black Widow and Bumper Robinson as Falcon. Man of Action Studios — comprised of Joe Casey, Joe Kelly, Duncan Rouleau and Steven T. Seagle — will serve as executive producer.
Joining the Marvel Universe block on Sunday, August 11 is ‘Marvel’s Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.’ Hulk has long fought alone to protect a world that sees him as a monster, but his friend Rick Jones has taken it upon himself to film the world-saving exploits of Big Green and his team to change that image. In this never before seen team up of Hulk, his cousin She-Hulk, A-Bomb, Red Hulk and Skaar, Marvel’s mightiest super heroes form an eccentric family living under one roof, working together to tackle threats that are too enormous for other heroes to handle. From trying to house break their giant red pet T-Rex to stopping Ego the Living Planet from crashing into the Earth, the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. must learn to balance Hulk-sized action with everyday family-sized problems.
‘Marvel’s Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.’ stars Fred Tatasciore as Hulk, Clancy Brown as Red Hulk, Eliza Dushku as She-Hulk, Ben Diskin as Skaar and Emmy Award-winning Seth Green as A-Bomb. The creative talents of Emmy Award-writer Paul Dini and Henry Gilroy have been tapped for this series.

‘Wreck-It Ralph’ Dominates 40th Annual Annie Awards
Earlier this evening, The International Animated Film Society, ASIFA-Hollywood, held its 40th Annual Annie Awards at UCLA’s Royce Hall, in Los Angeles, CA. While addressing the myriad of technical issues for the awards show were well beyond the capabilities of Fix-It Felix Jr and his magic hammer, the clear winner of the night was Wreck-It Ralph from Walt Disney Animation Studios.
The blockbuster took a total of five awards including Music in an Animated Feature Production (Henry Jackman, Skrillex, Adam Young, Matthew Thiessen, Jamie Houston, Yasushi Akimoto), Writing in an Animated Feature (Phil Johnston and Jennifer Lee), Voice Acting in an Animated Feature (Alan Tudyk as King Candy), Directing in an Animated Feature (Rich Moore) and Best Animated Feature.
Walt Disney Animation Studios’ short Paperman, directed by John Kahrs, also took its category of Best Animated Short Subject. Disney/Pixar’s Brave also picked up a couple of awards for Editorial in an Animated Feature (Nicholas C. Smith, A.C.E., Robert Grahamjones, A.C.E., David Suther) and Production Design in an Animated Feature (Steve Pilcher). Kristen Schaal also took the honors for Voice Acting in an Animated Television Production for her role as Mabel Pines in ‘Gravity Falls.’
Lastly, Jerome Platteaux, John Sigurdson, Ryan Hopkins, Raul Essig and Mark Chataway of Industrial Light & Magic were recognized for Animated Effects in a Live Action Film for Marvel’s The Avengers.
Juried awards honoring career achievement and exceptional contributions to animation were also awarded to Disney animator Mark Henn, one of three recognized with the Winsor McCay award, as selected by the ASIFA-Hollywood Board of Directors, for his career contributions to the art of animation. Additionally, Disney publicist and documentarian Howard Green received the June Foray Award for his significant and benevolent or charitable impact on the art and industry of animation.

‘Wreck-It Ralph,’ ‘Frankenweenie,’ ‘Brave,’ ‘Paperman,’ ‘Avengers,’ Get Oscar Noms; ‘Lincoln’ Leads Charge
Earlier this morning, awards show host Seth MacFarlane and Emma Stone announced the nominations for the primary categories for the upcoming 85th annual Academy Awards at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.
Disney’s only nominations announced thus far — unsurprisingly — have been for Best Animated Feature Film in which Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie, Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Wreck-It Ralph, Pixar Animation Studio’s Brave were all nominated. Other films in the category are Laika’s Paranorman and Aardman Animation’s The Pirates! Band of Misfits.
Walt Disney Animation Studios’ other animated film, Paperman, was nominated for Best Short against Adam and Dog, Fresh Guacamole, Head over Heels and Maggie Simpson in ‘The Longest Daycare.’ Meanwhile, Marvel’s The Avengers was nominated for Achievement in Visual Effects (Janek Sirrs, Jeff White, Guy Williams and Dan Sudick).
Otherwise, the morning belonged to Lincoln, produced by Dreamworks but marketed and distributed by Walt Disney Studios. Lincoln wracked up twelve nominations including: Best Performance for Actor in a Supporting Role (Tommy Lee Jones), Best Performance for Actress in a Supporting Role (Sally Field), Adapted Screenplay (Tony Kushner), Best Achievement in Directing (Steven Spielberg), Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role (Daniel Day-Lewis), Achievement in Cinematography (Janusz Kaminski), Achievement in Costume Design (Joanna Johnston), Achievement in Film Editing (Michael Kahn), Best Original Score (John Williams), Achievement in Production Design (Rick Carter; Set Decoration: Jim Erickson), Achievement in Sound Mixing (Andy Nelson, Gary Rydstrom and Ronald Judkins) and Best Picture, where it competes against Beasts of the Southern Wild, Silver Lining’s Playbook, Zero Dark Thirty, Django Unchained, Les Miserables, Life of Pi and Amour.
Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2012 will be presented on Oscar Sunday, February 24, 2013, at the Dolby Theatre™ at Hollywood & Highland Center®, and televised live on the ABC Television Network. The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than 225 countries worldwide.
