After filming a pilot for the new series, ABC has gone ahead and ordered ‘The Muppets’ to bring back to network television. The first official still for the series has been released, seen here, featuring Kermit the Frog and Gonzo. The official series treatment is as follows:
‘The Muppets’ return to prime time with a contemporary, documentary-style show that, for the first time ever, will explore the Muppets’ personal lives and relationships, both at home and at work, as well as romances, break-ups, achievements, disappointments, wants and desires; a more adult Muppet show, for kids of all ages.
Disney Junior will introduce ‘Muppet Moments,’ an entirely new short-form series, to Disney Junior beginning April 3, 2015. The new series will feature the Muppets interacting with young children, discussing ordinary, every day topics, like ‘apologies, favorite foods, Obamacare and manners’ — well, three out of four anyway.
To celebrate the announcement, two videos have been released. The first talks about the series itself, while the second features the Muppets in some never-before-seen audition tapes as they try out for some of the more popular and well-known roles of programs currently featured on the channel.
Perhaps working with Ricky Gervais on Muppets Most Wanted has benefited the Muppets – nay, all of us — in so many ways that it will take decades of sequels for us to fully realize them all. Fortunately, there may be one that we can realize just ahead of the Blu-ray release, and it is called ‘Disney Drive-On’ with the Muppets.
The plot is simple: Walter is the newest member of the Muppet family, so ‘Disney Drive-On’ gives us a taste of what his life is like working for Kermit the Frog et al on the Walt Disney Studios lot. As far as details go, well, we know the plot and that’s about it. We also have two sneak peek videos that were released today, the first being the show’s opening number:
