As a follow up to introducing the The Muppet Movie: The Nearly 35th Anniversary Edition on Blu-ray earlier this year, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment will bring two more of the Muppet films to Blu-ray on December 10, 2013 as a combo-pack: Muppet Treasure Island and The Great Muppet Caper. The films are now available for pre-order from Amazon.
Walt Disney Studios has provided us with the new teaser trailer and some initial stills from its upcoming Muppets sequel, Muppets Most Wanted. You can see the trailer embedded below.
Disney’s Muppets Most Wanted takes the entire Muppets gang on a global tour, selling out grand theaters in some of Europe’s most exciting destinations, including Berlin, Madrid and London. But mayhem follows the Muppets overseas, as they find themselves unwittingly entangled in an international crime caper headed by Constantine — the World’s Number One Criminal and a dead ringer for Kermit — and his dastardly sidekick Dominic, aka Number Two, portrayed by Ricky Gervais. The film stars Golden Globe-, Emmy- and SAG Award®-winning actress and writer Tina Fey as Nadya, a feisty prison guard, and Emmy Award winner Ty Burrell as Interpol agent Jean Pierre Napoleon. The new film will hit the big screen March 21, 2014.
In conjunction with the Blu-ray release of The Muppet Movie: The Nearly 35th Anniversary Edition, available to own on August 13, 2013, Amazon.com is now advertising that Walt Disney Records will also be re-issuing the Muppet Movie soundtrack as well. No further details in way of track list or description have yet to be made available so whether it’s a straight release or a special edition remains to be seen.

Nearly a year ago, we speculated that Disney Theatrical may have been working on creating a staged production involving the Muppets. Fast forward to last month (via today) and Variety is reporting that Disney Theatrical has in fact taken steps towards making it a reality.
According to the article, a fifteen minute segment was produced last month at the New Amsterdam Theatre, the future home of ‘Aladdin’ — another story we helped to break.
The article quotes Disney Theatrical head Thomas Schumacher as acknowledging the move, qualifying it was effectively a proof of concept to see if something more substantial would be feasible. It goes on to quote Schumacher as being ‘intrigued’ by the potential of bringing the Muppets to the stage.
