First Look: Disney’s ‘Princess and Me’ Collection of Dolls, Fashions and Accessories
Hoping to broaden the Disney Princess demographic, the Princess & Me collection from Disney Consumer Products and JAKKS Pacific puts a brand new spin on the classic Disney Princess.Aimed at girls ages 5 – 8, the Princess & Me dolls (Tiana, Aurora, Cinderella, Ariel, Belle and Rapunzel) measure a whopping 18″ in height and seek to engage the child into exploring a whole new world of play beyond the cardboard box. Their unique facial features as the classic Disney Princesses are re-imagined as how they might appear if they were tweens. Each retails for $49.99 and includes a booklet filled with Disney Princess fun facts and activities and the opportunity to register so the child receives a special letter on their birthday from their favorite Princess.
The real slant on the collection, however, is that there is a full line of accessories and highly-detailed wardrobe available which includes actual Disney Princess roleplay dresses for the child that match the doll’s clothing exactly. There’s also a line of purses inspired by each of the Disney Princesses that comes in both child and doll sizes (shown together with the dresses below, but sold separately).
The matching child dresses are also $49.99 each while the individual doll outfits are $14.99 – $19.99 each (ballet and sleepwear at launch). Also available is a Princess & Me Vanity Set for $14.99, a Princess & Me Wardrobe for $39.99 and a Princess & Me Canopy Bed for $49.99.
The collection will be available exclusively at Toys ‘R’ Us beginning in August and the Disney Store in fall. Additionally, QVC will introduce the collection next month to accept pre-orders.

Disney Consumer Products Welcomes Tiana to the Disney Princess Family in Unprecedented Ceremony
[SinglePic not found]Disney Consumer Products offered an unprecedented event earlier today that had even the skies opening up and pouring tears of joy on the otherwise gloomy streets of New York City. The event, which had celebrities from television, film and theatre mingling with Disney royalty, had Princesses Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Pocahontas and Mulan officially welcome Tiana from The Princess and the Frog to the Disney Princess family.
Held quite appropriately at the New York Palace luxury hotel, celebrities and their families such as Tina Fey (30 Rock, Saturday Night Live), Melissa Joan Hart (Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Nine Dead, Melissa & Joey), Kelly Bensimon, Kelly Rutherford (Gossip Girl), Audra McDonald (Private Practice), Nigel Barker (America’s Next Top Model), Matt Walton (One Life to Live), Amy Landecker, Miss Teen USA Stormi Bree Henley with Miss USA Kristen Dalton and more strolled down the purple carpet for the event. Also in attendance from the film, which comes out on DVD and Blu-ray on Tuesday were directors John Musker and Ron Clements along with voice talents Anika Noni Rose (Tiana), Jennifer Cody (Charlotte), Michael-Leon Wooley (Louis) and Jennifer Lewis (Mama Odie).
[SinglePic not found]After the purple carpet was cleared and the honored guests had made their way indoors to the ballroom, a horse-drawn carriage rolled down Madison Avenue, stopped directly in front of the Palace and Princess Tiana took to the purple carpet herself, escorted by a live jazz band and dozens of her adoring fans.
The event itself began with Anika Noni Rose who addressed the gathered group of families consisting mostly of little girls dressed as Disney princesses. Rose said that the first dream she ever recalls having as a child was that she would grow up to be the voice of a Disney character and how her dream came true. She spoke of Tiana and offered her own advice to the princess’ fans: meeting Prince Charming is a great thing, but they should never lose sight of their dreams and who they are.

Academy Determines ‘The Princess and the Frog’ Ineligible for Best Original Score
Originally considered as a nominee for an Oscar in the category of Best Original Score, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has determined that The Princess and the Frog fails to meet eligibility requirements.
Citing Rule 16, Section II, Paragraph E, the Academy’s Music Branch Executive Committee decided that the film’s soundtrack satisfies the following element, making it ineligible:
‘…scores diluted by the use of tracked themes or other preexisting music, diminished in impact by the predominant use of songs, or assembled from the music of more than one composer shall not be eligible.’
The Academy advises it has instructed the tabulators at PricewaterhouseCoopers to disregard any votes cast The Princess and the Frog in this specific category. The movie remains eligible in all other categories for which it qualified.

Say Au Revoir to Tiana’s Showboat Jubilee… For Now
Even before the show set sail back in November, Tiana’s Showboat Jubilee was causing waves of excitement at the Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts. With the show advertised to end on January 3, many were disappointed but then turned optimistic when the official site began listing the show as continuing beyond the expected final date.
While we are sad to report that the show is in fact ending today (and is explicitly listed as being performed only today on the Magic Kingdom’s Times Guide for this week), we thought we’d offer some hope of our own for those who missed the opportunity to see the moving spectacle.
Although au revoir is French for goodbye, its [roughly] literal translation is ‘until we see each other again’ and we have been privy to some information indicating that the show may in fact be returning, at least temporarily, most likely for the summer season. We can confirm that the Resort is actively auditioning for the roles for the show including Dr. Facilier who traditionally has only appeared for the show itself as opposed to meet and greets.
Some have asked us about how the existing meet & greets with Tiana and Naveen will be affected by the show ending and we are pleased to say that for the most part, they will not be affected at all. Tiana and Naveen will continue to meet with guests in Liberty Square (behind Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe) for the time being.
