The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced today that a total of fifteen animated features have been accepted to vie for Oscar for Animated Feature Film during the 83rd Annual Academy Awards. Amongst them are three entries from The Walt Disney Company: Tangled, Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue and Toy Story 3. Competing for the Animated Feature Film category does not preclude the film for entering Best Picture as long as the film satisfies the categories’ requirements for consideration.
Three films will be named as the final nominees in a ceremony to take place live on Tuesday, January 25, 2011, at 5:30 am PT in the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater. The awards ceremony itself will be held Sunday, February 27, 2011, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center®, and televised live by the ABC Television Network. The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than 200 countries worldwide.
Also competing for consideration in the Animated Feature category are the following films: Alpha and Omega, Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore, Despicable Me, The Dreams of Jinsha, How to Train Your Dragon, Idiots and Angels, The Illusionist, Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole, Megamind, My Dog Tulip, Shrek Forever After, and Summer Wars.
Earlier today, Tinker Bell was the latest celebrity to receive her very own star on the prestigious Hollywood Walk of Fame in Hollywood, California and stars not only lined the streets, but walked them as well to help Tink celebrate. Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has graciously provided us with these photos from the event. Guests included Walt Disney Imagineer and Disney Legend Alice Davis, Mae Whitman (voice of Tinker Bell), Raven Symone (voice of Iridessa), Pamela Adlon (voice of Vidia), Angela Bartys (voice of Fawn), Brad Raymond (director of Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue) and of course the Pixie Hollow fairies themselves.
Tinker Bell’s star joins those of fellow Disney Alums including: Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Winnie-the-Pooh, Snow White Kermit the Frog, Disneyland and Walt Disney himself. It’s located at 6834 Hollywood Boulevard, right in front of the Disney Soda Fountain & Studio Store where Disneyland’s and Pooh Bear’s stars can also be spotted.

Before she was ever introduced to Wendy and the Lost Boys, Tinker Bell met Lizzy, a girl with a steadfast belief in fairies. Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue begins in summertime in the beautiful English countryside. An enchanting encounter unfolds when Tinker Bell is discovered by Lizzy, and as their different worlds unite, Tink develops a special bond with the curious girl in need of a friend.
The very special outdoor ‘picnic-in-the-park’ premiere of Disney’s Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue was screened for more than 1,000 families in the local Los Angeles area this past weekend. The event featured a dozen of L.A.’s most popular food trucks, including ‘Top Chef’ alum Brian Hill’s gourmet food truck, along with a bevy of activity stations for the kids – including face painting, Tink tattoos, coloring stations and Radio Disney, who emceed the event. All fairy attendees received Tinker Bell blankets, Tinker Bell glow sticks, Fairy wings and enjoyed many Fairy activities.
Tinker Bell, Rosetta, Iridessa and Fawn were there live to greet all of their fairy friends. They were joined by film talent Mae Whitman (voice of Tinker Bell), Raven-Symone, Michael Sheen, Pamela Adlon, Rob Paulsen, Dominika Paleta, director Brad Raymond & producer Helen Kalafatic as well as Jason Earles (Hannah Montana), Billy Bush, Gilles Marini (Brothers & Sisters), Chris Cornell (Soundgarden), Mark Feuerstein (Royal Pains), Ariel Winter (Modern Family), Rick Fox (Ugly Betty), Zendaya Coleman (Shake It Up!), Roshon Fegan (Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam) and Landon Pigg.
Tinker Bell, the world’s favorite fairy, will be spreading her magic for audiences of all ages, as the worlds of fairies and humans converge for the very first time in Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue. An all-new original full-length CG animated film featuring breathtaking animation, spectacular music and an all-star cast of voice talents debuts September 21st on Blu-ray Combo Pack (includes Blu-ray and bonus DVD of the film and movie download) and DVD. In this new clip from Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue which comes to us courtesy of Walt Disney Studios New Zealand, Vidia has returned to Lizzy’s home with all of Tinker Bell’s Pixie Hollow friends who have come to rescue her. Releasing Tink from her prison won’t be an easy feat as Vidia explains, however, and it’s here that we learn that even Fawn has her limits.
Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue is available to own on Disney Blu-ray and DVD on September 21 and can be pre-ordered here. Make sure you keep up with all of our news on the newest Pixie Hollow classic by following this bookmark.
We have a couple of new clips from Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue to share with you, Pixie Hollow fans. In this first clip, provided to us by Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, Disney Channel star Bridgit Mendler introduces the clip to us from the set of her new music video from the film, How to Believe.
In the clip, the Fairies are over on the Mainland changing the season when Tinker Bell and Vidia come across what looks to be the house of Tinker Bell’s dreams. Until, that is, it turns into a nightmare as Tink is trapped by a clumsy human.
In this next clip, from Walt Disney Studios New Zealand, Vidia rushes back to Pixie Hollow to alert Tink’s friends about the capture. Unfortunately for the fairies of Pixie Hollow, it’s raining and fairies can’t fly in the rain (which probably doesn’t make Silvermist feel too great about herself). But with a little help from Bobble and Clank along with some faith, trust and pixie dust, the girls are soon on their way to help their friend in need. Hopefully by the time the clip is done, Bridgit will be finished recording her music video.
And — as if by magic — here’s a clip from Bridgit Mendler’s How to Believe music video from Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue. What are the odds?
Finally, in this extended webisode of Leo Little’s Big Show, we are treated to a sneak peek at some of the other bonus material that can be found on the Disney Blu-ray/DVD of Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue.
Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue will be available to own on Disney Blu-ray/DVD on September 21 and is currently available for pre-order on Amazon.com
As part of last week’s Disney Consumer Products holiday tour, we also got a first look at several toys from JAKKS Pacific in honor of the upcoming direct-to-video Disney Fairies movie Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue.
Standouts from the collection include a soft-bodied doll version of Lizzie, the human child in the film who encounters Tinker Bell and develops a relationship with her. Lizzie comes complete with a small plastic figure of Tink that fits in Lizzie’s pocket. Additionally, there will be a separate fairy house playset available which pays respects to the fairy house constructed by Lizzie from household products which initially draws Tinker Bell in.
The Pixie Power Playset offers a Pixie Hollow playset that lights up and moves as the included 4.5″ Disney fairies pass by the various interactive components. The box’s ‘try me’ mode, for example, demonstrates the rainbow lighting up as Tink flies past it. Fairies can create additional actions such as making flowers blossom, a butterfly flap her wings and more.
Lastly, the Tinker Bell doll from Mattel features a magnetic wand that — when waved over Tink’s body — causes Tink’s wings to light up with color-changing LEDs and play fairy sounds.
