Ever since we were the first to bring the good news that Toy Story and Toy Story 2 would individually be heading to blu-ray on March 23 (with Toy Story 3 coming to 3D blu-ray later this year), we’ve seen a countless number of folks questioning what the cover art for Toy Story would look like since it was obvious that the artwork released was simply a place-holder.

Toy Story and Toy Story 2 Come to Blu-ray/DVD March 23, 2010; Available Now for Pre-Order
Although no formal press release from WDSHE has been released, DisneyStore.com has made Toy Story and Toy Story 2 available for pre-order today for a release date of March 23, 2010. The two titles are sold separately in both DVD only ($22) and Blu-ray/DVD Combo Packs ($30).
Not surprisingly, 3D doesn’t appear to be on the menu for the release (as was the case with UP), but here’s a glimpse of some of the reported extras for each disc:

Historic El Capitan Theatre Receives RealD 3D XL Cinema System in Time for Toy Story 3D Double Feature
LOS ANGELES, Oct. 1 — The famed Hollywood El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood has been upgraded to 3D cinema leader RealD’s XL Cinema System in time for the highly-anticipated debut of Disney PIXAR’s Toy Story and Toy Story 2 Disney Digital 3D(TM) double feature beginning October 2nd. Powered by RealD for 3D presentations since the release of Disney’s Chicken Little in 2005, the landmark El Capitan Theatre is the highest attended RealD 3D theatre in the world.
“The El Capitan is a state of the art movie palace which has been equipped with RealD 3D technology for many years,” said Michael V. Lewis, chairman and CEO of RealD. “Upgrading to the industry’s brightest 3D delivered by the XL Cinema System in time for ‘Toy Story’ and ‘Toy Story 2′ will help a new generation of fans discover and fall in love with this classic franchise and beloved characters in spectacular RealD 3D.”

Disney Legend Tim Allen Among First to Welcome Buzz Lightyear Back to Earth
Comedy superstar Tim Allen, who provides the voice of Buzz Lightyear in Disney/Pixar’s “Toy Story,” “Toy Story 2” and the upcoming “Toy Story 3,” offered an official thumbs up to the space ranger this week for spending more than 15 months in space onboard the International Space Station as part of a NASA-Disney educational outreach collaboration. Buzz returned home aboard Space Shuttle Discovery STS-128 on September 11. He’ll be treated to a ticker-tape parade down Main Street, U.S.A. in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida on Oct. 2, which coincides with the big-screen return of “Toy Story” and “Toy Story 2”—this time in a Disney Digital 3D double-feature. George Lucas to Present Award to John Lasseter and Pixar Directors; Pixar to Screen Footage and Teach Classes
ROME (Hollywood Reporter/Reuters) – “Star Wars” creator George Lucas will make his first trip to the Venice Film Festival to present the Golden Lion award for lifetime achievement to John Lasseter and the directors of Disney-Pixar, festival organizers said Thursday.
The presentation, which will take place September 6 in the Palazzo del Cinema’s Sala Grande, will be held in conjunction with screenings of new 3D version of “Toy Story” and “Toy Story 2.” Lasseter directed both films. The evening also will include the premiere of a 10-minute clip from “The Princess and the Frog,” Disney’s return to hand-drawn animation, and the screening of a new sequence from the in-production project “Toy Story 3.”
