As previously reported, Toy Story Mania! will be opening at the Tokyo DisneySea Park at the Tokyo Disney Resort on July 9. The attraction, already immensely popular at other Disney theme parks, will be the focal point of the all new Toyville Trolley Park, an old-fashioned amusement park in New York. Guests will enter the attraction via the mouth of a 26-foot tall sculpture of Woody’s face.

Toyville Trolley Park will also be home to: the Toy Box Playhouse, where the audio animatronic Mr. Potato Head will reside; Slinky Dog’s Gift Trolley; and Bullseye’s Carnival Corral where guests can enjoy three types of old-fashioned carnival games featuring characters from the Toy Story films. Guests can see their funny reflections in Manic Mirrors, run as fast as they can at Blazin’ Buckaroo, and bring a miniature carnival scene to life at Woody’s Wonder Wagon, for heartwarming fun with the entire family.

From July 9 through August 31, the Resort will offer the ‘Toy Story Mania!’ Challenge in which guests are challenged to solve a crossword puzzle by looking for the names of the Toy Story Mania!
characters, along with locating a specific Cast Member who can provide them with a special hint. When participating guests successfully reach the goal, they will receive a medal of friendship featuring Woody, Buzz and other Toy Story characters. (A separate fee of ¥500 is required to participate in this program.)

Also through August 31, the restaurants and lounge at Tokyo DisneySea Hotel MiraCosta will offer special menus themed to the new Toy Story Mania! attraction. Desserts will come with cookies designed with Woody and the Little Green Men.

Beginning July 5, approximately 75 items such as snacks, straps, memo pads and more will be offered designed with the attraction logo and featured characters to commemorate the opening. Food menus will salute the opening of Toy Story Mania! with a sausage pastry themed to Slinky Dog, as well as bottle cappers designed with Woody and Mr. Potato Head. At the popcorn wagons, a souvenir bucket featuring the characters from the Toy Story films will also be offered.

‘Toy Story Mania!’ to Open at Tokyo Disneyland Resort on July 9, 2012

Oriental Land Company, Ltd., owner and operator of the Tokyo Disney Resort, has announced that on July 9, 2012, it will welcome the 3D attraction ‘Toy Story Mania!’ based on the popular Toy Story franchise from Disney/Pixar to the Tokyo DisneySea theme park.

The 3D attraction, a first for the resort, will be located in a new area of the park, Toyville Trolley Park, themed to an old-fashioned amusement park. Guests will enter the attraction through the ‘wide open mouth’ of Woody whose face will measure more than 26 feet in height. Once inside the attraction, the queue will appear full of ‘oversized’ toys and board games, similar to that of the queue at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. At this time there is no mention of the troubled Mr. Potato Head interactive audio  animatronic found at both the Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort (Disney California Adventure) locations.

According to OLC, ‘Toy Story Mania!’ comes to the DisneySea theme park at the staggering cost of nearly $150 million, almost twice as much as what the original attraction is reported to have cost to design and build. It will be FASTPASS enabled and be supported by the ‘Slinky Dog’s Gift Trolley’ merchandise location.

‘Toy Story 3′ Inspires New Game and New Characters for ‘Toy Story Mania!’ Attraction

Dino Darts at Toy Story Midway ManiaNew characters from the soon-to-be-released Disney•Pixar film “Toy Story 3” are being added to the joyful, toy-full adventure of Toy Story Mania! at Disney’s California Adventure and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  In addition to playing with new characters in Toy Story Mania!, there will be opportunities in both parks for up-close fun with another all-new character from “Toy Story 3” – Lots-o’-Huggin’ Bear. He’s the bossman at Sunnyside Daycare in the highly anticipated animated feature film.

Toy Story Mania! – the 4-D interactive ride-game attraction inspired by the Disney•Pixar “Toy Story” films – is extremely popular with Disney Parks guests on both coasts.  This high-energy, immersive adventure puts players squarely in the action as their game play triggers surprises that deliver a fourth dimension of fun.  Toy Story Mania! engages guests in a whole new way with delightful characters of “Toy Story” and “Toy Story 2.”

Starting in late May, Woody, Buzz, Mr. Potato Head and the gang are joined by a whole new set of characters from “Toy Story 3.” The new game greeting guests, “Rex and Trixie’s Dino Darts,” invites riders to shoot their virtual darts at all-new balloon targets in a primeval world filled with volcanoes and lava balloons, explained Sue Bryan, senior show producer, director, Walt Disney Imagineering.

Game players are welcomed by Rex (the nervous Tyrannosaurus rex) and his new friend Trixie (a blue Triceratops and one of the toy characters from the new film) cheering them on. The new game (it replaces “Bo Peep’s Baaa-loon Pop”) turns up the fun with more hidden surprises and the potential for volcanic levels of excitement.  Other changes:

  • The “Hamm & Eggs” game will now be hosted by Hamm and Buttercup (a toy unicorn with heart-shaped nostrils).
  • In the prize scene, Trixie, Buttercup, Dolly (a doll), Mr. Pricklepants (a lederhosen-clad hedgehog) and one other surprise – all from “Toy Story 3” – will appear with Woody and Jessie.

“Our number-one goal in creating Toy Story Mania! was to come up with game-play challenges appropriate for all guests, from little kids to serious gamers,” Bryan said.  “I love that we are keeping things fresh and new by adding these great new friends and fun to join some of the most popular characters of all time.”

New Toy Story Mania! for Nintendo Wii Gets Blasted in Europe

Toy Story Mania! Blaster Accessory by ThrustmasterBeing one of those who are easily confused by video games whose controls consist of more than a single button, I was pretty relieved when I had the chance to play Toy Story Mania! last week. Now for those in the Europe market, gameplay has gotten a lot more fun, if not simpler. The new Ray Gun Toy Story Mania! accessory by Thrustmaster is inspired in part by both the attraction and Space Command weaponry.

The accessory is essentially a glorified case for the Wii remote. With no batteries required to use it, it’s just a matter of plugging the Wii remote directly into it.

It appears, however, the accessory will only be available in the Europe market — at least initially.

Review: If you’ve been to Disney’s California Adventure (Anaheim) or Disney’s Hollywood Studios (Orlando) within the past year, you no doubt are familiar with Toy Story Mania!, the Toy Story-themed 4D (that’s park-speak for 3D with cold water splashed on you) video game/attraction. Set to make its in-home debut later this year on the Nintendo Wii (minus the cold water), the iPhone edition is a happy medium which allows you to take the charm of the game with you no matter where you go.
