'Small Fry' © Disney/Pixar. All Rights ReservedUnfortunately I have not yet had the privilege to see either Disney’s The Muppets or the accompanying Toy Story Toon, Small Fry, from Pixar Animation Studios, but it would appear based on circumstantial evidence that this still, newly released via the official Toy Story Facebook page, features a shot of Mini-Buzz and Mini-Zurg (aka Mini-Dad) in a fast food joint display case of available kids meals toys based on the popular Space Rangers program.

In Small Fry, Buzz Lightyear is left behind at a fast food restaurant when a kids’ meal toy version of Buzz takes his place. While Bonnie’s toys are stuck with the annoying three-inch-tall Buzz impersonator, the real Buzz is trapped in the restaurant at a support group for discarded toys. As Woody and the gang devise a way to rescue their friend, Buzz tries to escape the toy psychotherapy meeting.

Small Fry plays before The Muppets which debuts in theaters nationwide on November 23, 2011.

‘Small Fry’ Credits Hint at Roster of Characters (Minor Spoilers)

Small Fry ©2011 Disney/Pixar. All Rights Reserved.Walt Disney Studios and Pixar Animation Studios have kindly provided us with a list of the talent whose voices will appear in the upcoming short Small Fry, which will play before Disney’s The Muppets, beginning November 23.

Based on previously released stills and a clip, we know of course that Tim Allen and Tom Hanks are returning as Buzz Lightyear and Woody Pride respectively, as well as Jane Lynch making her Disney/Pixar debut as Neptuna the mermaid.

Other talent listed as appearing include John Ratzenberger (Hamm), Wallace Shawn (Rex), Joan Cusack (Jessie), Estelle Harris (Mrs. Potato Head), Don Rickles (Mr. Potato Head), Timothy Dalton (Mr. Pricklepants), Emily Hahn (Bonnie), Lori Alan (Bonnie’s Mom), Jess Harnell (credited as ‘additional voices’ in Toy Story 2, Toy Story 3), Carlos Alazraqui (credited as ‘additional voice’ in Toy Story 3), Bob Bergen (credited as ‘additional voices’ for Toy Story 2) and Jim Ward (‘additional voice’ in Toy Story 3).

With a wide range of new, discarded Fun Meal toys, however, there appear to be more slots to fill and with Pixar famous for using its own talent to voice characters, there is a fair share of Pixarians involved in Small Fry. We already know that Teddy Newton provides the voice of Mini-Buzz, while writer/director Angus MacLane voices a couple of the toys himself, including T-Bone and Super Pirate. Other Pixarians involved, several of whom appear to be lending their voices for the first time, include Josh Cooley, Bret Parker, Emily Forbes, Kitt Hirasaki, Peter Sohn and Jason Topolski.

‘Small Fry’ Toy Story Toon Video Sneak Peek (Plus Hi-Res Images)

Small Fry ©2011 Disney/Pixar. All Rights Reserved.A few days ago, we shared with you two images from the second Toy Story Toon, Small Fry, from Disney/Pixar which will premiere alongside Disney’s The Muppets on November 23. Today we get our first video sneak peek of the short, courtesy of Walt Disney Studios UK.

In Small Fry, Buzz Lightyear is left behind at a fast food restaurant when a kids’ meal toy version of Buzz takes his place. While Bonnie’s toys are stuck with the annoying three-inch-tall Buzz impersonator, the real Buzz is trapped in therestaurant at a support group for discarded toys. As Woody and the gang devise a way to rescue their friend, Buzz tries to escape the toy psychotherapy meeting.

The clip gives us a glimpse of the real Buzz Lightyear making his escape from his prison, only to find himself in the midst of a support group meeting, where he encounters leader Neptuna (Jane Lynch) as well as T-Bone and the rest of the discarded Fun Meal toys.

‘Small Fry’ Toy Story Toon First Images (Hi-Res)

Small Fry ©2011 Disney/Pixar. All Rights Reserved.Though Disney has famously severed ties with a particular fast food chain when it comes to kids meal toys, the subject matter isn’t off limits when it comes to film. In particular, Disney/Pixar’s newest Toy Story Toon, Small Fry, which will play before Disney’s The Muppets when it opens in theaters nationwide on November 23, 2011.

USA Today, which offers a sneak peek at the new short — written and directed by Angus MacLane, describes the short as a jealous ‘Happy Meal-type toy at a fast-food restaurant yearns to break out of his glass display case to play just like a real toy. He kidnaps Buzz Lightyear in an attempt to take over his play-filled existence.’

Original voice actors Tim Allen, Tom Hanks, Joan Cusack and John Ratzenberger are amongst those who returned to record the new short while Disney/Pixar director Teddy Newton voices the ‘Mini Buzz’ and MacLane voices several of the discarded mini-toys such as T-Bone and Super Pirate. Comedic actress Jane Lynch also joins the Disney/Pixar family in this short, though if you want to know how, you’ll have to read the USA Today article.

The USA Today article also quotes MacLane as saying, ‘These toys’ existence is about being really popular before the meal and then being totally forgotten about.’ Sound familiar? It should: it’s essentially the exact same basis for the original Toy Story, in which Lasseter has described as a toy’s worst fear: not being played with — not to mention Jessie’s plight in Toy Story 2.

We are pleased to be able to share two images from the short, which includes the still from USA Today but at a much higher resolution. Click on any of the thumbnails to see a larger version. If a resize arrow appears, you may click it to see the image at its original size:

Photos: Inside Town Square Theater Meet & Greet with Mickey Mouse (Minor Spoilers)

Town Square Theatre Meet and Greet at Magic Kingdom
Although it’s slated to open officially to the adoring public on Friday, April 1, the new meet and greet location for Mickey Mouse and the Disney Princesses experienced a soft opening today and a few lucky guests at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom had the opportunity to experience a little one on one time with Mickey, Minnie and the Disney Princesses in their new digs.

Fortunately for us, Josh Siegel (@Crushinat0r) was on hand to capture some of the newly installed magic (literally speaking) and share it with us.

A new grand foyer, featuring a spectacular Town Square floor mosaic leads the path to both the entry queues for Mickey Mouse and the Disney Princesses. Along the queues, hi-resolution LCDs easily pass off as Houdini-era posters on the Mickey Mouse side that occasionally show off a bit of animation a la the Enchanted Art developed for the Disney Dream, and offer up trivia questions on the Disney Princess side.

In this other enchanted poster, Mickey performs a very old and clever trick that’s guaranteed to make any card chosen by guests waiting in the queue to vanish before their very eyes. How does he do it? A magician never reveals his tricks! Although quite admittedly, sometimes Stitch Kingdom does.

As we first touched upon the other day when we first revealed photos of the new Mickey meet & greet room, the room is just full of inside Disney references and sight gags just waiting to explore. We found about 15 or so just by pouring through the photos (admittedly some aren’t readily visible in these images), but rather than simply point them out, here’s some clues to some of our favorites:

  • Despite it not existing for decades to come, 1901 was a pivotal year in the history of the Walt Disney Company
  • Mickey’s trunks are covered in port-of-call stickers that not only represent Disney Parks and Resorts around the world, but even some sub-sections of them.
  • Speaking of his trunks, consider who manufactures them and you might have a pretty groan-inspiring Jungle Cruise joke.
  • The animatronic rabbit that sometimes gets mad and likes to disappear from time to time is sitting atop a hatbox made by 10 Shillings and Sixpence Ltd (or 10/6 as we like to abbreviate it on occasion).
  • The notes posted on the billboard reference a couple of Disney animated classics: one a feature-length animated film, the other a popular Mickey Mouse short. There’s also a note from a famous magician who’s a member of the Disney family, but he’s more like a cousin, one could say.
  • The Sorcerer’s Hat sure looks like a miniature version of the Disney’s Hollywood Studios icon, but that crystal ball manufactured by Leota Crystals resembles more of a smooth golf ball, whether it’s silver or glowing purple.
  • There’s all sorts of magician’s preferred animals represented, including birds… including a parrot (at least the head).
  • Fantasia is heavily represented in the room
  • And, of course, there’s at least one classic Hidden Mickey somewhere in the Mouse’s box of tricks.
