Earlier today, Entertainment Earth opened up pre-orders for its Funko Hikari Sofubi Vintage Mickey Mouse, which is limited to just 500 pieces. The Vintage Mickey Mouse is actually the fourth variant produced in the line and each previous version (black and white, original/traditional colors and gold glitter — another EE exclusive) have sold out rapidly.
We have previously shared news about the upcoming exciting ‘Silly Symphony Collection,’ a 16-album boxed set of vinyl LPs and digital download, celebrating Walt Disney’s game-changing animated musical shorts from the 1930s. Now with special thanks to Walt Disney Records collaborator Fairfax Classics, we are getting our first look at the entire library of all the double-album cover artwork from the collection, which you can find in our embedded gallery below.
Less than a year after Mickey Mouse’s debut in Steamboat Willie, the Walt Disney Studio embarked on a decade-long series of music-driven shorts whose breakthroughs would forever change the direction of animation and would have a massive impact on popular culture. The 75 cartoons – called Silly Symphonies – pioneered “three-strip” Technicolor, introduced Donald Duck, and created a pop music phenomenon with “Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?” They won seven Academy Awards® for Best Short Subject (Cartoon) between 1932 and 1939.
Funko has shared product images of its upcoming Frozen Series 2 available in February 2015. The series includes Anna and Elsa in both young versions as well as coronation versions, plus ‘summer Olaf.’
In addition, Funko will also be releasing Frozen Mystery Minis — also in February — and has even provided us with a distribution chart for the variants, with a happy Marshmallow being among the rarest (and frozen Anna a close second).
Listed with a shipping date of December 2014, our friends at Entertainment Earth have informed us that they are now accepting pre-orders for the baby Dancing Groot Pop! — which is incidentally being billed as the first official baby dancing Groot toy — as well as the Howard the Duck Pop!, both of which are billed as part of the Guardians of the Galaxy series.
With the standard versions of the Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven Pop! Vinyl figures by Funko already announced (and available for pre-order from Amazon), several exclusive variants were announced today for the die-hard Frozen fan and Pop! collectors.
Funko has officially announced its licensed versions of Elsa, Anna, Olaf, Kristoff and Sven in Pop! Vinyl form from Walt Disney Animation Studio’s popular film, Frozen. The quintet (each available separately) is expected to be available at retailers in July. All of the figures are currently now available for pre-order from Entertainment Earth.
A spokesperson for Funko says she was unable at this time to respond to inquiries regarding the availability of a Pop! version of Hans, nor regarding any potential exclusives for San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC), however hints officially released by Funko are believed to point to possible variants such as a glow-in-the-dark Olaf and/or a ‘frozen’ variant of Anna.
Yesterday, Stitch Kingdom was invited to preview Blank: A Vinylmation Love Story, an upcoming webseries produced by Disney Interactive. The following is a recap of the event — which included an advanced viewing of the webseries as well as a behind-the-scenes look at its creation — courtesy of Kiki Levin.
It’s not often you’d imagine members of the Walt Disney Company dumpster-diving for set pieces, but that’s exactly what happened during the production of Blank: A Vinylmation Love Story. Conceived and created by the Disney Interactive team in Burbank, the stop-motion animation was made on a shoe-string budget (hence the dumpster-diving) but radiates the high production values and heart-warming storylines Disney fans have come to know and love.
Kidrobot, one of the premiere originators for designer vinyl toys, has recently begun selling figures from its newest licensed collaboration, Marvel.
Among the collection are Marvel editions of Frank Kozik’s Labbit including Wolverine (pictured here) from Marvel’s X-Men as well as the Venom Symbiote from Marvel’s Spider-Man.
As of today, in addition to the Labbit, Kidrobot has launched a full line of MUNNY do-it-yourself figures available in both 7″ and 4″ sizes. Each Munny comes with a selection of decals as well as props related to the Marvel character it represents. Currently available are: Iron Man, Captain America, Spider-Man, Wolverine and Venom.
