Disney Favorites from Travel Channel Arrive on Blu-ray and DVD for First Time

It absolutely never fails. Each time Travel Channel decides to run a block of its Disney-themed program, threads pop up on every Disney fan site message forum and quickly fill with dozens of responses ranging from ‘Thanks for letting us know!’ to ‘I’m watching it!’ to ‘Aww, I wish I would have known’ to the perennial favorite, ‘I’ve got my DVR full of them all!’

That’s why when we heard the news that the Disney Parks oriented programs produced by Lightship Entertainment were finally coming home to DVD and Blu-ray, we could barely contain ourselves and couldn’t wait to be the first to deliver the news.

Distributed by Questar, the Disney Parks collection promises to bring all the secrets, stories and magic from the world’s most beloved vacation destinations: the Walt Disney World and Disneyland resorts.

“Disney granted us unprecedented access into their theme parks, resorts, and attractions which has allowed us to present over five hours of programming that reveals incredible information and imagery,” said Andy Perrott, President and Executive Producer of Lightship Entertainment. “Working closely with Disney Parks, we proudly present over five hours of the most definitive collection of insiders information and imagery on Disney’s theme parks, resorts, and attractions.”

There are three different editions available in the Disney Parks collection: A DVD pack consisting of six of the programs; a Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy combo pack featuring three of the programs; and a single-disc edition DVD consisting of two of the programs. In addition to those, Questar has announced an additional special Premier Collection in special gold foil-wrap that will be available exclusively through Disney outlets.

“Questar is truly honored to be the exclusive provider of Disney Theme Park content,” said Kevin Silverman, Vice President, Digital Distribution and Programming at Questar Entertainment.  “This is an exciting start to 2010 and proves that in its 25th year, Questar still has ‘Everything in the World Worth Watching.’”

Walt Disney World to Launch New Vacation Planning Site in Feb; Plus a New Muppets Experience?

If you’ve visited the Walt Disney World website lately to create an itinerary for your upcoming Disney vacation, you may have noticed the warnings that the current itinerary planners and favorites tool will be removed during a site update.

Disney Parks has just quietly launched a new website at MYMAGICALDISNEYVACATION.COM which, despite currently showing a splash page with the Tree of Life missing, appears to promise a whole new itinerary planning site beginning February 8.

Continuing to tread the thin line between fact and rumor, we’ve also heard rumblings of something called Muppets Mardi Gras, so be on the lookout for topless pigs.

Walt Disney World Satellite Maps by Robo Updated

It’s been over a year since the incredibly popular Walt Disney World Satellite Maps by Robo section has been added to Stitch Kingdom and it was long due for an update. Thanks to Robo, many of the maps have now been updated to reflect changes in the resort over the past year as well as some additional maps added, most notably those for Downtown Disney and individual lands in the Magic Kingdom.

I also took the opportunity to address the fact that users needed to click Search in order to view all maps initially. Now all maps will be shown automatically by default while still allowing users to filter by category and optional subcategory.

Bock, a client of the Manatee Rehabilitation Project, was released back into the wild yesterday (c) Gene Duncan/Disney

Bock, a client of the Manatee Rehabilitation Project, was released back into the wild yesterday (c) Gene Duncan/Disney

As part of the Manatee Rehabilitation Partnership (MRP), Disney’s Animal Programs team helps to take final measurements and readings Feb. 24, 2009 as they prepare to release a manatee into his natural habitat at Blue Springs State Park in Orange City, Fla. The manatee, named “Bock,” was released Tuesday into the warm waters of the St. John’s River. The manatee, rescued as an orphan from the St. John’s River in 2001, arrived at Epcot in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. in 2003 weighing about 500 pounds. At Epcot, marine mammal experts weaned him from a bottle and began feeding him a diet of romaine lettuce, fruits and other vegetables. “Bock” now weighs more than 1,000 pounds and is approximately eight years old. Prior to his release, he was fitted with a satellite tracking belt to follow his movements and allow for behavioral observation. His progress will be monitored by the MRP in which Disney’s Animal Programs has been involved since 2001 when the partnership was established. The MRP is a cooperative group of nonprofit, private, state and federal entities that monitors the health and survival of rehabilitated and released manatees.
