Disney Announces Search for Winnie the Pooh ‘Storyteller of the Year’
To celebrate parents and guardians who foster their child’s creativity and teach valuable life lessons through storytelling, Disney Consumer Products (DCP) has launched a nationwide search for the Winnie the Pooh ‘Storyteller of the Year.’ The ‘Storyteller of the Year’ user generated contest taps into parents’ love of Winnie the Pooh and invites them to share the loveable bear’s story in a creative way through video and the use of fun props including Pooh plush toys, puppets, blankets or any other Pooh item. To enter, all parents and families need to do is create a simple, one-minute video that’s sweet like ‘hunny,’ full of wonder or funny, as they read a select Winnie the Pooh story to their child and show their favorite Pooh items. From April 22 through May 15, 2013, videos can be submitted online at DisneyStore.com/PoohStoryteller or from any mobile device. Complete rules and a list of prizes can be found here.
‘We invite parents to join Disney in celebrating the art of storytelling and Winnie the Pooh, one of our most beloved characters of all time,’ said Stephen Teglas, vice president of classic franchises for Disney Consumer Products. ‘Pooh teaches us about friendship, adventure, and to appreciate the simple things in life. Through the “Storyteller of the Year” contest we hope to capture some of these sweet family moments and encourage parents to use their best storytelling abilities to spark their child’s imagination and create long-lasting memories.’
Parents and guardians can choose from three Pooh stories ‘A Blustery Day,’ ‘Happy Mother’s Day’ and ‘A Bouncy Babysitter’ to create their own video. Once their video is complete, they simply upload it at DisneyStore.com/PoohStoryteller to enter the contest. DCP will select the winning video that best showcases creativity, integrates Pooh items, and captures the essence of Winnie the Pooh. The grand prize winner will receive a trip to Los Angeles, CA for a family of four and an assortment of Winnie the Pooh products including toys, books, and other gifts. As an added bonus, the winning video will be added to an upcoming version of Disney’s Winnie the Pooh: Wonder and Wander App, and everyone who downloads the free app will see the ‘master storyteller’ in action.
Additionally, while in Los Angeles, the winning family will join DCP at the ‘Wonder and Wander with Winnie the Pooh’ experience held at ‘PLUSH: the posh little urbanites show’ on June 9, 2013, where the winner will be officially crowned ‘Storyteller of the Year,’ and will read a Winnie the Pooh story to kids and families and celebrities in attendance.
Fans can also vote at DisneyStore.com/PoohStoryteller to select a ‘fan favorite’ video. The ‘fan favorite’ will receive a great assortment of Winnie the Pooh products.

The highly acclaimed film, which is now available for pre-order from Amazon.com, is a completely original film which represents the return to the Hundred Acre Wood by Walt Disney Animation Studios in over three decades. Inspired by five stories by original Pooh creator and author A.A. Milne, Owl sends the whole gang – Pooh, Tigger, Rabbit, Piglet, Kanga, and Roo – on a wild journey to help Eeyore and save Christopher Robin from the mysterious Backson all the while trying to find a suitable replacement for Eeyore’s missing tail. In the end, it turns out to be a very busy day for a bear who simply set out to find some ‘hunny.’
Winnie the Pooh stars the voice talents of Jim Cummings (Pooh/Tigger), Craig Ferguson (Owl), Tom Kenny (Rabbit), Travis Oates (Piglet), Bud Luckey (Eeyore), is directed by Stephen J. Anderson and Don Hall and features all new music composed by Henry Jackman with lyrics by Robert and Kristen Lopez along with a whole new take on the classic theme by Zooey Deschanel.

- 2 Blu-ray Exclusive Deleted scenes with introduction by directors Stephen Anderson and Don Hall – ‘Original Eeyore Intro’ and ‘Original Tigger Intro’

Hosted by John Cleese (narrator of the film), and with occasional help from Pooh himself, this featurette explores Winnie the Pooh?s history from his beginnings as a character in a book, to his continued life in the movies. The filmmakers reveal how they worked to keep the look of the characters and settings in this movie consistent with their first appearances on-screen in 1966. Pooh, being a bear of very little mind, finds much of this confusing, but the Narrator and the filmmakers make it all clear to Pooh — and you!
- Sing along with the movie – Follow the red balloon and changing word colors to seven song lyrics featured in the film.
- Disney song selection – “Winnie the Pooh Theme Song,” “The Tummy Song, “A Very Important Thing To Do,” “The Backson Song,” “It?s Gonna Be Great,” “Everything is Honey” and “The Winner Song Finale”

‘Winnie the Pooh’ New Stills, ‘Pooh’s Note’ Clip
Walt Disney Animation Studios has just provided us with four new stills from its upcoming return to the Hundred Acre Wood, in Winnie the Pooh, opening this Friday, July 15. The stills, which include an image from the new clip, have been added to the beginning of our stills gallery below and even provide a look at Eeyore after he’s been Tiggerized.
In the clip, titled ‘Pooh’s Note,’ Pooh arrives at Owl’s house with a note he found at Christopher Robin’s door. Owl, who has just taken the award for finding the ideal replacement tail for Eeyore (unTiggerized), decodes the message for the gang, which appears to spell certain doom for their good friend.

First Look: ‘Winnie the Pooh’ Limited Edition Plush Collection from Disney Store
For his first birthday, Christopher Robin Milne received a stuffed teddy bear from Harrods of London named Edward. The bear, later rechristened Winnie the Pooh — in honor of a real bear at the London Zoo and a real swan named Pooh — was a gift from his father, author A.A. Milne, and was soon joined by a stuffed tiger, donkey, pig and a kangaroo and her joey. With the help of Christopher Robin’s imagination, they inspired a series of stories and were joined by Owl and Rabbit, both entirely A.A. Milne’s creations. Today the stuffed versions of Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore, Piglet and Kanga reside in the care of the New York Public Library where they are on permanent display to the public.
To celebrate the beloved stuffed animals, Wolfgang ‘Woolie’ Reitherman, director of the original featurettes and 1977 film, had a set of plush commissioned to be used in the iconic opening scenes which were meant to take place in Christopher Robin’s bedroom. Unbeknown to Reitherman, Burny Mattinson (who started at the company in 1953 and continues to work for Disney to this day, where he last served as story supervisor to the 2011 film) had his wife create a Pooh to be used for the film. Although it was too late for that Pooh to be used in the film instead, he now makes his debut Winnie the Pooh out in theaters on July 15.
To commemorate the appearance of Pooh and his friends in the new film, Disney Store will soon be offering a limited edition set consisting of replicas of the actual plush used in the film’s opening. The plush range in sizes of 7 1/2″ for Roo through 24″ for Pooh and come complete in a canvas duffel bag. Made of a special fabric to give the plush a ‘well-loved’ feel, the edition size is limited to just 300 pieces.
No information on when the set will be released or how much it will cost is available at this time but we will update as more information becomes available to us.

‘Winnie the Pooh’ Clips: ‘Eeyore’s New Tael’ and ‘Pooh Wanders to the Next Paragraph’
Courtesy of Walt Disney Studios UK, we have two new clips and a new featurette for Winnie the Pooh (July 15, 2011).
In the first clip, titled ‘Eeyore’s New Tael,’ Narrator John Cleese introduces us to just some of the many items the gang employs to help replace Eeyore’s (Bud Luckey) missing tail. In the end (horrible pun admittedly intended), Kanga (Kristen Anderson-Lopez) approaches the daunting task as only a mother could.
In the next clip, titled ‘Pooh Wanders to the Next Paragraph,’ we get a taste of the characters’ interactions with the written ‘text’ of the film while subconsciously being taught there is no such thing as free will. Of course, we also learn a much more valuable lesson: If it doesn’t have hunny, it has no use. This tearing-down-the-fourth-wall was a trait of the first film, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, and was one of the elements that John Lasseter was determined to include in this film, as he first revealed during his 2009 D23 Expo presentation.
Finally, we have this episode of Disney Movies Preview, hosted by Emma Lee, which takes a closer look at the film through interviews with co-directors Stephen J. Anderson and Don Hall, and animators Andreas Deja and Mark Henn. There’s also quite a bit of new animation to be spotted along the way.
Don’t forget! There’s just a few more days to listen to the entire Winnie the Pooh soundtrack online for free. You’ll find the full details in our live bookmark for the film.

‘Ballad of Nessie’ New Stills, Concept Art
Walt Disney Studios and Walt Disney Animation Studios have provided us with a new still and a few concept art images for The Ballad of Nessie, the short that will be attached to Winnie the Pooh when it opens on July 15, 2011. We’ve added them to the beginning of our existing gallery of stills from the short, shown below.
Narrated by Scottish comedian Billy Connolly and directed by the Emmy® Award-winning team of Stevie Wermers-Skelton and Kevin Deters (‘Prep & Landing,’ ‘Operation Secret Santa’ and the 2007 Goofy short, How to Hook Up Your Home Theater), The Ballad of Nessie is animated in classic Disney hand-drawn style. Written by Wermers-Skelton, Deters, and Regina Conroy, the film is produced by Dorothy McKim and Tamara Boutcher, and features a musical score by Oscar®-winning composer Michael Giacchino (Ratatouille, Up). Animation on ‘Nessie’ was supervised by five of Disney’s top talents: Andreas Deja, Mark Henn, Randy Haycock, Dale Baer and Ruben A. Aquino.
Set in the ‘bonny blue highlands’ of Scotland, The Ballad of Nessie is a whimsical and colorful tall tale about the friendly Loch Ness monster, Nessie, and how she (and her best friend, the rubber duck MacQuack) came to live in the moor they now call home. Setting the adventure into motion is a greedy land developer named MacFroogle, who decides to build a mini-golf empire on top of Nessie’s home.
The short will make its world premiere tomorrow evening at the Anima Film Festival in Belgium. A book adaptation (written by Kieran Lachlan and illustrated by Andy Harkness) will be released on May 3, 2011 and is currently available for pre-order on Amazon.com.
